Logan County is a county in the state of Nebraska in the United States . The county seat is Stapleton .

The county is located just west of the geographic center of Nebraska and has an area of 1,479 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Blaine County , Custer County , Lincoln County , McPherson County, and Thomas County .

history

Logan County was formed in 1885. It is named after the Union General John A. Logan .

As of the 2000 census , Logan County had 774 people in 316 households and 229 families. The population density was less than 1 inhabitant per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.6 percent white, 0.1 percent African American and 1.0 percent Native American; 0.3 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.9 percent of the population.

Of the 316 households, 29.7 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 66.5 percent were married couples living together, 3.8 percent were single mothers, 27.5 percent were non-families, 25.0 percent were single households, and 12.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.95.

For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.3 percent of residents under the age of 18, 4.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.0 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 26.7 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 17.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 99.6 men.

The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,125 , and the median income for a family is $ 38,958. Males had a median income of $ 26,250 versus $ 18,906 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,937. 6.5 percent of families and 10.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. These included 13.1 percent of children and adolescents under the age of 18 and 9.6 percent of senior citizens aged 65 and over.
