Alexei Wiktorowitsch Tishchenko ( Russian Алексей Викторович Тищенко , English transcription Aleksey Tishchenko; ) (born May 29, 1984 in Omsk , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian boxer .

He was Olympic champion in 2004 and 2008 , world champion in 2005 and European champion in 2006 .

Life

The 1.67 m tall southpaw was born in Omsk, but grew up in Rubtsovsk , where he also began boxing and won his first fight at the age of twelve. He was trained at the beginning by his father Viktor Tishchenko, later by Vladimir Iwasenko, Alexander Medvedev, Alexander Bubennow and Leonid Kisseljow.

In 2000 he won the gold medal in bantamweight at the European Cadet Championships in Athens and in 2002 also the gold medal in featherweight at the Junior World Championships in Santiago de Cuba .
