Devis Boschiero (born July 29, 1981 in Chioggia ) is an Italian professional boxer and former European champion ( EBU ) and WBC world championship challenger in super featherweight .

Career

Among the amateurs, Devis Boschiero was Italian featherweight champion in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and won the silver medal in the lightweight at the 2003 EU championships in Strasbourg . He was only inferior in the final against Selçuk Aydın . In 2004 he took part in the European Championships in Pula , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Viorel Simion .

He made his professional debut in December 2004 and remained undefeated in his first 30 fights. He won the IBF Youth World Championship in December 2006 and the WBA Intercontinental Championship in November 2007 . In July 2007 he had defeated the amateur world champion Kirkor Kirkorow, who had switched to the professional camp . In November 2008 he won the EBU's EU championship and in May 2011 he secured the Italian championship.

On November 6, 2011, he boxed in Tokyo for the WBC world title in super featherweight, but lost to the Japanese title holder Takahiro Aō by a split judge's decision.

On July 21, 2012 he defeated Ermano Fegatilli in the fight for the European title of the EBU and was then able to defend the title against Antonio De Vitis, Samir Kasmi and the unbeaten Frenchman Guillaume Frénois (record: 31-0) before he won the belt on 14. February 2014 by a split point decision to the also undefeated Romain Jacob . Boschiero lost the direct rematch again on points.

In September 2015 he lost in Liverpool after two knockdowns by TKo in the sixth round against Stephen Smith . In July 2016 he lost on points to Mario Barrios (15-0).

On May 19, 2018 he defeated Faroukh Kourbanow (15-0) in the fight for the EBU's EU super featherweight title. In November 2018 he was narrowly defeated by Martin Ward (20-1). In September 2019 he defeated Ivan Tomas (9-0) and became the IBF intercontinental champion .
