Martin Joseph Ward (born July 13, 1991 in Leeds ) is an English professional boxer in the super featherweight division .

Amateur career

Martin Ward trained as an amateur at the Dagenham and Repton clubs . He won gold at the 2007 EU Cadet Championships in Italy , as well as bronze at the 2007 European Cadet Championships in Hungary and the 2007 Cadet World Championships in Azerbaijan . In 2009 he won the gold medal in featherweight at the European Youth Championships in Poland .

In the adult division, he was English champion in 2010, reached the quarter-finals at the 2011 European Championships in Turkey and was eliminated at the 2011 World Championships in Azerbaijan in the second preliminary round at 20:21 against the eventual Olympic champion Robson Conceição .

Professional career

In August 2012, he signed a professional contract with British promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom and won his debut on September 8 of that year. He is trained by Tony Sims.

After ten wins and two draws, he won the WBC International title on April 11, 2015 by giving up his opponent Maxi Hughes , which he was able to defend against Sergio Blanco, Mario Pisanti and Ruddy Encarnacion.

On September 10, 2016, he won the British Championship (BBBofC) with a TKO victory against Andy Townend and then defended the title against Ronnie Clark, Maxi Hughes and Anthony Cacace, which also earned him the Lonsdale Belt .

On December 13, 2017, he won the European Championship (EBU) by knocking out the Spaniard Juli Giner , which he lost to James Tennyson on May 5, 2018 through a TKO defeat. On November 30, 2018, he won the WBC International title again by beating Devis Boschiero on points .
