European Boxing Union

The European Boxing Union (EBU, Eng. For European Boxing Union ), whose predecessor in 1913 in the Belgian Ghent founded International Boxing Union (IBU) was, is the European continental federation for professional boxer based in Rome and was established in 1946 .

The EBU awards the title of European champion (EBU) and the subordinate titles of EU- European champions and European champions of non-EU countries (EBU-EE). The subordinate titles are a kind of development title, not the actual European Championship (EBU title).

The EBU is associated with the World Boxing Council (WBC), so reigning EBU champions can often be found at the top of the WBC rankings. Therefore z. B. Oktay Urkal mandatory challenger for Kostya Tszyu and Željko Mavrović mandatory challenger for Lennox Lewis .
