Selçuk Aydın (born September 4, 1983 in Trabzon ) is a Turkish boxer .

Amateur career

Selçuk Aydın is 15 times Turkish champion and won 360 of 380 amateur fights. He became the 1999 European Cadet Bantamweight Champion and 2001 European Junior Lightweight Champion. At the Junior World Championships in 2000 he won bronze after he was only eliminated in the semifinals with just 10:11 against Boris Georgiev . Previously, he had defeated Urantschimegiin Mönch-Erdene (13: 4) and Oleg Komissarow (13: 5), among others .

For adults, he won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Russia in 2002 and the gold medal at the EU Championships in France in 2003 . He defeated Devis Boschiero in the final fight (30: 6). At the 2004 European Championships in Croatia , he defeated Dejan Zlatičanin (19:10), Bagrat Avoyan (TKO), Rövşən Hüseynov (TKO) and Domenico Valentino (36:29) before he was eliminated in the final against Dimitar Shtiljanow (21:32) thus became Vice-European Champion. He won another silver medal at the EU championships in Spain in 2004 , when he was defeated this time in the final against Domenico Valentino (14:22). Previously, he had beaten Gyula Káté (41:27), among others . He was then qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , where he lost in the first fight against Dimitar Shtiljanow (11:20).

At the Mediterranean Games in Spain in 2005 and the EU Championships in Hungary in 2006 , he won the silver medal after losing to Domenico Valentino in the final (24:40, 16:27). At the 2006 European Championships in Bulgaria , he met Frankie Gavin in his second fight . He was disqualified for an argument with the referee and then banned from the amateur boxing association AIBA for five years .

professional

Aydın turned pro in November 2006 and is under contract with Arena Box-Promotion in Hamburg . He won his first professional fight on November 10, 2006 by knockout in the first round against the Slovak Marian Gabris. In December he won by knockout in the first round against the Romanian Marius Bughiata and by knockout in the second round against the previously unbeaten Uzbek Jonny Ibramov (4-0).

After eleven more wins, including against Vitali Martynau (11-5) and Farhad Bakirov (24-2), he boxed for the WBC international welterweight championship on April 26, 2008 . He defeated the South African Lucky Lewele (25-4) unanimously on points. He won his first title defense in September of the same year in Cuxhaven by knockout in the second round against the Russian Marat Khuzeev (17-3).

On March 6, 2009, he managed another knockout win in the first round against Luis Hernández Chalá (22-3) from the United States. In April 2009 he won just on points against the first opponent of the extended world class, the Belgian Said Ouali (25-2, southpaw), who lives in the USA, and got a chance at the vacant EBU European welterweight title. He defeated the Belgian Jackson Osei Bonsu (30-2) in Istanbul by knockout in the ninth round, but he never defended this title.

On June 5, 2010, he defeated the undefeated Romanian southpaw Ionuț Dan Ion (26-0) in the fight for the silver world title of the WBC in the welterweight division . The also unbeaten Belarusian Dzmitry Lubachkin (18-0), he defeated in April 2011 by knockout in the first round. Less than three months later, he managed another knockout win against Raman Dzekhkanau (10-2). On November 26, 2011 there was a rematch with Ionuț Dan Ion (29-1) in Trabzon, who Aydın was able to win again just on points.

On July 28, 2012, he boxed in San José, California against the American southpaw Robert Guerrero (29-1), at the end of 2012 # 10 pound for pound in Ring Magazine , for the interim world welterweight championship of the WBC. In a tough fight, however, Aydın lost to the American on points and suffered his first defeat as a professional. On January 26, 2013 he lost in Las Vegas by majority decision against the Mexican Jesús Soto Karass (26-8).

On March 22, 2013, he won unanimously on points against the Italian Giuseppe Lauri (53-11). In July 2013 there was a knockout victory against the Mexican Aaron Herrera (25-2). In May 2014 he lost by knockout in the eleventh round against Wiktor Postol (25-0).
