Ionuț Dan Ion (born August 9, 1981 in Giurgiu ) is a Romanian - Canadian professional boxer .

Amateur career

Ionuț Dan Ion won a bronze medal in flyweight in 1997 at the European Cadet Championships in Bitola and in 2001 the silver medal in welterweight at the Francophone Games in Ottawa . He was also a participant in the 1998 Junior World Championships in Buenos Aires , the 1999 European Junior Championships in Rijeka , and the 2001 World Championships in Belfast and 2003 in Bangkok .

Professional career

Ionuț Dan Ion became a professional boxer in Canada in 2004, something Romanian boxers like Leonard Doroftei (1998) and Lucian Bute (2003) did before him . By 2015 he had won 34 of 36 fights and received several regional titles from the world associations WBA , WBC and IBF . He fought most of his fights in Montreal . He suffered his only two defeats so far in 2010 and 2011 in Turkey against Selçuk Aydın . His most significant successes were two wins against Kevin Bizier in 2013 and 2014.

On March 28, 2015, he lost in the fight for the IBF world welterweight title against Kell Brook . After his subsequent win against Rafał Jackiewicz in September 2015, he only got back into the ring in November 2016 and lost to Jarrett Hurd .
