Junior World Championships in boxing
The junior world championships in boxing were held almost regularly every two years from 1979 to 2006 under the rules of the AIBA . The scope of the Junior World Championships after 2006 was reduced by the introduction of new age groups. The World Youth Championships , which were held in Guadalajara for the first time in 2008 , were introduced for 17 to 19 year olds . Since then, the youth world championships have replaced the old youth world championships. From 2001 to 2007 there were also Cadet World Championships ; 15 and 16 year old boxers were eligible to participate. Since 2009 the Cadet World Championships have been replaced by the new Junior World Championships; of course, only boxers between the ages of 15 and 16 are entitled to participate.
For female boxers of this age group there are the youth and junior world championships for women .
