Youth and junior world championships for women in boxing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The youth and junior world championships for women in boxing (English: Women's Junior & Youth World Championships) have been held under the rules of the AIBA since 2011 . This takes into account the increasing number of young female boxers on all continents. On the continental level, there have been European, African and Pan American championships for women since 2001.

Organization and rules

The approximately one-week event takes place under the rules of the AIBA. Entitled to participate are women boxers aged 15 and 16 in the “junior” age group, and 17 and 18 years old for the “youth” boxers. Boxing takes place in ten (youth) and thirteen (junior) weight classes. The junior bout lasts three rounds of two minutes, with a one-minute break between rounds. A youth fight consists of four rounds of two minutes with a one-minute break. Judges and referees are appointed by AIBA. As is usual in amateur boxing tournaments, the two semi-final losers in one weight class share third place.
