Jesús Soto Karass (born October 15, 1982 in Los Mochis , State of Sinaloa ) is a former Mexican professional boxer.

Boxing career

Jesús Soto Karass started professional boxing in 2001 and won his first nine fights in a row by knockout, six of them in the first round. In January 2003 he boxed in his tenth fight a ten-round tie against Cristian Solano (record: 16 wins - 1 loss). After two more wins, he suffered three consecutive point defeats against Nurhan Süleymanoğlu (12-0), Freddy Hernandez (16-0) and Yuri Foreman (16-0). In May 2005 he reached another draw against the two-time World Cup challenger Manuel Gómez.

In his next 14 fights he remained unbeaten again, with victories against Michel Rosales (16-0), Germaine Sanders (27-4), Chris Smith (21-4), David Estrada (22-4) and former world champion Vince Phillips . Against Gilbert Venegas (10-4) there was a twelve-round tie. In November 2009 he lost on points to Alfonso Gómez after the score sheet was evaluated in the sixth round due to a cut injury over Karass' right eye from a headbutt. For the same reason, in May 2010 there was a worthless match result in the second round against Gabriel Martínez (24-1). In November 2010 he lost on points to Mike Jones (22-0) and had to admit defeat on points in the rematch. In January 2012 he then unexpectedly lost prematurely for the first time through tKo against Gabriel Rosado (18-5).

After a subsequent victory on points against Said El Harrak (10-1) and a tKo win against Euri Gonzalez (20-2), he boxed for the International Championship of the WBA against Marcos Maidana on September 15, 2012 , but was defeated by tKo in the eighth round.

On 26 January 2013 he defeated in Las Vegas surprisingly Selçuk Aydın on points and was on July 27 in San Antonio and Andre Berto defeat by TKO in the twelfth round. This made him the title holder of the NABF .

On December 14, 2013 he boxed in Texas for the interim world championship of the WBA welterweight, but lost prematurely to the title holder Keith Thurman (21-0). At the end of June 2014, he also suffered a point defeat against Devon Alexander .

In April 2016 he boxed in a draw against Yoshihiro Kamegai (26-3). He lost the rematch prematurely five months later.

Trivia

Karass is trained by Javier Capetillo, who has worked with Mexican world champions such as Alejandro González and Antonio Margarito . His Spanish battle name Renuente means something like "The Unruly". He lives in Los Angeles and is the younger brother of the professional boxer José Luis Soto Karass.
