Nurhan Suleymanoglu
Nurhan Süleymanoğlu (born February 28, 1971 in the Kazakh SSR as Nurhan Suleimanow ) is a former Turkish light welterweight boxer. He won the 1993 Mediterranean Games in France and the 1997 Mediterranean Games in Italy . He also won the European Championships in Bursa in 1993 and was runner-up in 1996 and 1998. He achieved further success with a second place at the Goodwill Games 1994 in Saint Petersburg , a second place at the 1995 World Championships in Berlin and a second place at the 1998 World Cup in Beijing . In 1996 and 2000, he was a participant in the Olympic Games.
Amateur career
In May 1993 he came at the World Championships by a bye and a points victory against the Yugoslav Vukašin Dobrašinović in the round of 16, where he was first subject to the Cuban Héctor Vinent . In September of the same year, however, he was able to win the European Championships in Bursa . He won against Jason Williams from Wales, Peter Richardson from England, Nordine Mouchi from France, Armen Geworkjan from Armenia and Oktay Urkal from Germany.
In August 1994 he won the silver medal at the Goodwill Games in Saint Petersburg ; he suggested u. a. also the German starter Enrico Thormann and the later, two-time Olympic champion Oleg Saitow from Russia, before he lost again in the final against Héctor Vinent. Also at the 1995 World Championships in Berlin , he moved into the final again by winning against Zoran Didanovic, Besik Wardselaschwili, Bulat Niasimbetow and Oktay Urkal, where he again had to admit defeat to Héctor Vinent.
In April 1996 he was runner- up in Vejle , after losing to Oktay Urkal this time. In August of the same year he represented his home country at the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Héctor Vinent after beating Aboubacar Diallo.
At the 1997 World Championships in Budapest , he was eliminated in the preliminary round against two-time African champion Benamar Meskine. In May 1998 he again won the silver medal at the European Championships in Minsk . This time he was defeated by the Romanian Dorel Simion in the final , having previously defeated the Belarusian Sergei Bykowski, the Poland Jacek Bielski and the Dane Mehmet Erarslan. He won another silver medal at the World Cup in Beijing in June 1998 . He was only defeated in the final by the Cuban Diógenes Luna .
In 1999 he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Lucian Bute from Romania at the World Championships in the USA . In May 2000 he defeated the Greek Spiridion Ioannidis and the Poles Mariusz Cendrowski at the European Championships in Finland , before losing to Alexander Leonow from Russia in the semi-finals and got out with a bronze medal.
He then started at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney . After a victory against Michael Strange from Canada, he lost in the round of 16 against Sergei Bikowski from Belarus (+8: 8).

Professional career
The 1.75 m tall left-hand boom turned pro in the US in 2001 and lives in Houston , Texas. He won his first 14 fights, six of which by knockout. He was on January 15, 2004 with a unanimous victory over the undefeated Mexican Jesús Soto Karass (11-0), Central American champion of the WBA in the light middleweight division.
On July 15, 2004 he was defeated by David Estrada (16: 1) in the fight for the US welterweight championship and thus suffered his first defeat as a professional. In February 2005 he lost against Carlos Quintana (18: 0) for the first time prematurely and suffered a point defeat against Terrance Cauthen (30: 3) in June 2006. On March 3, 2007 he went in the fight against José Varela (20: 2) from Nicaragua in the second round knockout and ended his professional career in July 2007 with a score of 16: 9.
