Mariusz Cendrowski (born October 20, 1977 in Lublin ) is a former Polish professional middleweight boxer.

Amateur career

Mariusz Cendrowski is 1.78 m tall, left wing arm and boxed as an amateur for the sports club Gwardia Wrocław in Wroclaw . In 1995 he was Polish junior light welterweight champion, and in 1996 Polish U20 runner-up and Polish runner-up at light welterweight. In 1997 he was Polish U20 and Polish light welterweight champions and in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 Polish welterweight champions.

He won the 21st Tammer tournament in Finland in 1999 , where he defeated Renats Fahardintsew from Lithuania 4-0, Selim Paliani from Turkey 3-2, Albert Starikow from Estonia 7-3, Victor Puiu from Romania 6-4 and in the light welterweight division Vyacheslav Sentschenko from Ukraine prevailed 5-0. He is also a welterweight, three-time winner (2001, 2002, 2003) of the Feliks Stamm tournament in Warsaw . He defeated Mohamed Hamid from Egypt, Fehmi Buzhala from Germany, Colin McNeil from Scotland, Wiktor Plotnikow from Ukraine, Vitalie Grușac from Moldova, Damian Jonak from Poland, Georgios Bilis from Greece, again Vitalie Grușac, Timur Gaidalow from Russia and Xavier Noël from France.

He achieved further success in international tournaments with a second place in the light welterweight division at the Trofeo Italia 1997 in Italy (victories against Ricardo da Silva from Portugal and Romeo Brin from the Philippines, final defeat against the Italian Christian Giantomassi ) and two other silver medals in the welterweight division in the Czech Republic Grand Prix tournament in 1998 and 2002. Among the defeated opponents were Jiří Svačina from the Czech Republic, Vitalie Grușac from Moldova and Patric Wehrle from Switzerland, in the finals he was defeated in 1998 by Danijar Munejtbasow from Kazakhstan and in 2002 by Yudel Johnson from Cuba. At the European Championship qualification in Italy in April 2000, he defeated Emir Salčinović from Bosnia, Radek Deskac from the Czech Republic and the Slovenian Dejan Zavec .

At major international events, however, he remained medalless; so he lost his second fight against Pasquale Abis from Italy at the 14th Junior European Championships in Siófok in June 1995 , after he had previously beaten the Swede Daniel Güngör. At the 32nd European Championships in May 1998 in Minsk , he was defeated by the Ukrainian Serhiy Dzindsiruk . In August 1999 he took part in the 10th World Championships in Houston , where he was defeated by the French Willy Blain after a win against Sami Sipilä from Finland .

Also at the 33rd European Championships in May 2000 in Tampere , he won his first fight against the Dutchman Orhan Öztürk, but then had to admit defeat to the Turkish Nurhan Süleymanoğlu . In September 2000 he represented Poland at the Summer Olympics in Sydney , where he lost in the first duel against the South Korean Sung-Bum Hwang. At the 11th World Championships in Belfast in June 2001 , he won against Spas Genow from Bulgaria, but then suffered a defeat against Vitalie Grușac, whom he had beaten several times in previous meetings. In July 2002 he started at the 34th European Championships in Perm , Russia , where he defeated Vilmos Balogh from Hungary, but then lost to the German Sebastian Zbik .

Professional career

He played his first professional fight on February 28, 2004 in Warsaw against the Hungarian Gyula Zabó and won by tKo in the second round. After five more knockout victories, he was on April 29, 2005 in Świebodzice by unanimous victory over the Belgian Alexander Polizzi, TWBA champion in the light middleweight division. After two subsequent wins on points, he defended the title on December 17, 2005 in Żyrardów unanimously against the Russian Sapir Gimbatow.

He was also able to win his following six fights, including against the undefeated Belgian Jamel Bahki (11-0). He fought two of the fights in the United States. On June 9, 2007, he boxed a draw in Katowice against the Moroccan Hicham Nafil.

On July 1, 2008, he boxed in Campione d'Italia against Domenico Spada (26-1) for the international championship title of the WBC in the middleweight division, but lost over 12 rounds on points. But he was on October 26, 2008 by knockout against the Latvians Deniss Aleksejews, International Baltic Champion ( BBU ) in the light middleweight division. However, he lost the title in his first defense on April 24, 2009 by a premature defeat to the Finns Kai Kauramaki.

In October 2009 he played a fight against his Polish compatriot Damian Jonak (23-0); Cendrowski suffered a fracture of his hitting hand in the fifth round, but was able to save himself through the rounds and fight for a draw. After a points win against the German Andreas Reimer, he boxed on June 5, 2010 in Neubrandenburg against the unbeaten, three-time German champion Thomas Troelenberg (21-0) and won unanimously on points. He also defeated the Czech Bronislav Kubin (10-2) unanimously in July 2010.

On October 30, 2010 there was a rematch with Thomas Troelenberg in Rostock . Cendrowski won it prematurely by giving up his opponent in the third round after Troelenberg's lower jaw was smashed by a right hook. He then had to be treated in the accident hospital in Berlin and ended his boxing career. On March 13, 2011, however, Cendrowski lost in the fight for the world title of IBO middleweight on points against Awtandil Churtsidze (23-2) from Georgia.

After winning points against Anton Sjomkin (13-4) from Estonia, he fought again on June 16, 2012 against Domenico Spada, this time for the world title in the silver version of the WBC middleweight association. Cendrowski lost again on points. On September 22, 2012 he defeated the German Bernard Donfack unanimously on points.

After boxing

In 2012 he ended his career and became a boxing coach. He has been dependent on a wheelchair since a car accident in November 2016.
