Domenico Spada (born September 15, 1980 in Rome ) is a professional middleweight boxer and avowed Roma with Italian nationality.

Amateur career

As an amateur, he had 34 wins, six losses and one draw. He was Italian light middleweight champion in 1999 and Italian middleweight runner-up in 2001.

At the 15th European Junior Championships in 1997 in Birmingham , he started in the light welterweight division. There he defeated the Armenian Alexander Dadian on points in the preliminary round, but then lost to the Azerbaijani Sahib Bagirow on points in the quarter-finals. In 1998 he also won the welterweight gold medal at the 25th Gazeta Pomorska tournament in Poland. He beat Ukrainian Andrei Sharikov in the final early in the second round.

In March 2000 he won the gold medal in the light middleweight division at the annual Multi Nations Tournament in England . He thus automatically qualified for the 33rd European Championship in Finland in May . There he lost, however, starting in the light middleweight division, in the first round to the Bulgarian Dmitri Usagin.

In August 2000 he won the light middleweight division, the 19th International President's Cup in Indonesia .

Professional career

In 2000 he turned professional and won 22 fights in a row, 12 of them prematurely. On December 26, 2004 he boxed against Idd Kigula from Tanzania for the IBF Junior World Championship and won by knockout in the first round. On March 19, 2005 he defended the title through tKo in the eighth round against the unbeaten Ukrainian Artur Bochuev.

On March 30, 2006 he won the Italian championship title by tKo in the tenth round against Luciano Lombardi. On November 14th, 2006 he also won through tKo in the seventh round against the IBF Mediterranean champion Francois Bastient (29 wins - 4 defeats).

On December 15, 2006 he won in Hamburg through tKo in the eighth round against the unbeaten Mustafa Karagöllü and received the international championship title of the WBC . In his first title defense on March 24, 2007 in Hamburg, he lost to Mahir Oral by a controversial split decision on points . However, he won the title back impressively on October 19 through tKo in the first round against Alpaslan Agüzüm (34-3). He then defended the title on April 15, 2008 against the Belgian Jamel Bahki (16-1) and on July 1 of the same year against the unbeaten Poland Mariusz Cendrowski (16-0).

On July 11, 2009, he boxed in Nürburg for the interim world championship of the WBC, but was defeated by the undefeated Sebastian Zbik (26-0) on points. Also the rematch on April 17, 2010 in Magdeburg , Spada lost on points.

On April 30, 2011 he failed in London in the fight for the European Championship of the EBU , by losing points to the undefeated title holder Darren Barker . On June 16, 2012, he secured himself with another point victory against Mariusz Cendrowski (22-3), the world title in the silver version of the WBC association in the middleweight division.

On April 5, 2014, he boxed in Mexico against Marco Rubio (58-6) for the interim world championship of the WBC middleweight, but lost by knockout in the tenth round. In October 2014 he lost prematurely to Martin Murray (28-1).

Against Andrea Manco, he won the Italian middleweight championship in June 2017, which he lost to Mirko Geografo in May 2018.
