Interim Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Interim Championship or transition title is often used in boxing , kickboxing and other martial arts . The title is introduced when a titleholder is unable to defend it for a long time. This can happen due to a breach or a lack of clarity in the contract. When this happens, two selected fighters of the same weight class will fight for the interim title to provide a main challenger during the time of the inability to defend. He fights against the real title holder at the next possible point in time to unite the titles. The winner is usually called the Undisputed Champion .

In theory, the interim title can be defended like any other. But this is rather untypical, as the title is usually only considered a transitional title. Once the interim title has been merged with the original weight class title , it can no longer be defended as the titles are merged. However, a new fight can be started at any time.
