Frank Mir
Frank Mir (born May 24, 1979 in Las Vegas ; actually Francisco Santos Mir III ) is an American martial artist, active in mixed martial arts . I was the UFC Heavyweight World Champion from June 2004 to August 2005 .
Career
I have a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kenpo Karate . In his fighting style, his BJJ background plays a role, most of his victories he achieved through surrender holds .
Frank Mir became the new UFC Heavyweight Champion by defeating Tim Sylvia at UFC 48 - Payback on June 19, 2004 . Due to a motorcycle accident in September 2004, I was no longer able to defend the title, so it was revoked in August 2005. I then worked on his comeback in the UFC, with varying degrees of success at the beginning. After defeating Brock Lesnar in the first round via Kneebar in February 2008 , Mir got the chance for the UFC Interim Heavyweight Title , which he also won with a victory in December 2008 over Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira . Therefore, on June 11, 2009, Brock Lesnar and Frank Mir met for the second time, this time for the UFC Heavyweight title . The fight was dominated by Lesnar and Mir lost to TKO in the second round. After this defeat, Frank Mir faced Cheick Kongo on December 13, 2009, whom he clearly defeated. On March 27, 2010 he was defeated by Shane Carwin . In September he was able to defeat Mirko Filipović in the main fight of UFC 119 in the third round by knockout. Mir achieved his most spectacular victory on December 10, 2011 against the BJJ expert Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira, whom he broke his arm with Kimura because he refused to knock off. However , Mir lost the subsequent title fight against Junior dos Santos through TKO. In 2016, after a fight against Mark Hunt during doping control , Mir tested positive for Oral-Turinabol . In his last eight fights he only had two wins.
I was a coach on the eighth season of the reality TV series The Ultimate Fighter .
Personal
Frank Mir is married and has four children, three births and a stepson.
