Leonard Joseph "Len" Cariou (born September 30, 1939 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Canadian actor and composer .

Life

Cariou began his career at the theater in his hometown of Winnipeg, where he has appeared at the Manitoba Theater Center , which he co-founded, since 1958 .

Since the late 1960s he lived near New York City and has since been seen increasingly on Broadway and also off-Broadway . In 1979 he received a Tony Award for his role in the musical Sweeney Todd . Since the mid-1960s, Cariou has also appeared in film and television productions. Cariou has played the role of Henry Reagan in the television series Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York since 2010 . In 2019, he portrayed New York District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau in the Netflix miniseries When They See Us .

Private

Len Cariou was in a relationship with Glenn Close in the 1970s ; afterwards he married Patricia Otter, the marriage resulted in a daughter. From 1975 to 1978 he was married to Susan Barbara Kapilow; after the divorce, he married Heather Summerhayes on October 25, 1986.
