criticism

The first season of the series has in Metacritic a Metascore of 70/100 based on 25 reviews. On TV.com the series has a rating of 8.2 / 10 based on 629 votes and on IMDb.com it has a rating of 7.9 / 10 based on 2662 votes. In Entertainment Weekly's Fall 2010 TV Preview , Ken Tucker named the series one of the top five new series of 2010.

Critics particularly praised the show's exterior shots, while the New York Daily News praised the portrayal of Selleck as Frank Reagan. In this review, a comparison was made between Selleck's character Jesse Stone and Frank Reagan. Both characters are morally stable men less words.

Laura Hudson was much more critical of the series in its review in Slate magazine . The series reflects the perfect view of white America on the police. Attacks against the police are constantly being brought forward by lying, manipulative and prejudiced people who almost always belonged to minorities. The allegations made against the police almost always turned out to be false.
