Robert Clohessy

Robert Clohessy (born June 10, 1957 in New York ) is an American actor .

Life

Clohessy was born the fifth of eight children to Irish-born New York police officer John Clohessy. He graduated from the State University of New York at Purchase . While his brothers became police officers, law enforcement officers or marines, Clohessy initially aimed for a career in the theater. In the first few years after his studies, he mainly performed off-off Broadway or, as Clohessy later put it himself, “practically in the East River ”.

So he put his theater ambitions on hold, turned to television and moved to California . From the mid-1980s, Clohessy appeared in television series such as Hill Street Police Station , Ohara, and One of the Boys . Numerous supporting roles in television and cinema films followed.

In 1998 he moved to Connecticut with his family . He was best known from 1999 for his role as prison guard Sean Murphy in the HBO television series Oz - Hell Behind Bars , which he played in 38 episodes until 2003. In 2009 he appeared in the independent film The Crimson Mask , for which he also served as executive producer . For his role in The Crimson Mask Clohessy was in Long Iceland International Film Expo 2009 as Best Actor in a Dramatic Feature and the Hoboken International Film Festival 2009 as a Best Supporting Actor award. From 2010 he took on roles in the television series Boardwalk Empire and Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York . At the same time he appeared again in the theater, this time also in Broadway productions such as Twelve Angry Men or Pal Joey .

In 2012 he was seen in short but succinct supporting roles in the comic book adaptation Marvel's The Avengers and the drama The Place Beyond the Pines .

From his marriage to Catherine Erhardt, the two sons Byron Clohessy and Myles Clohessy emerged, both of whom are also active as actors.
