Perry Mason is an American television series that was produced from 1957 to 1966. It is based on the novels Erle Stanley Gardner about the fictional defense attorney Perry Mason . There were 271 episodes in nine seasons, each 50 minutes in length.
action
A crime is committed, the police are investigating, and an innocent man is arrested. This is charged by the prosecutor Hamilton Burger. Perry Mason is tasked with defending this innocent man and clarifies the truth with the help of private detective Paul Drake and his secretary Della Street. In a dramatic finale in the courtroom, the real perpetrator is exposed and brought to justice.
Only a few episodes deviate from this scheme. Hamilton Burger wins a case once, but then loses again in the retrial.

The series was shot in black and white with one exception, the episode The Case of the Twice Told Twist (German title: The case with the shy villain ).
When Raymond Burr had to step down due to illness during the sixth season, Bette Davis , Michael Rennie , Hugh O'Brian and Walter Pidgeon took on the role of lawyer in four episodes . In season eight, Burr was absent from two episodes due to contract disputes; here jumped Mike Connors and Barry Sullivan took his place.
Ray Collins in the role of Lt. From the end of the seventh season, Tragg only had sporadic smaller appearances due to age. He had been with Wesley Lau as Lt. Anderson aside. Collins died in the summer of 1965 after filming the eighth season.
The show's producer, former actress Gail Patrick , was the wife of Cornwell Jackson, Alder Stanley Gardner's agent. In The Case of the Final Fade-Out (German title: The Case of the last corpse ), the last episode of the series, Erle Stanley Gardner as judge and Gail Patrick as a spectator can be seen in the courtroom.
The series in Germany
The German television showed from November 1959 to January 1963 a total of 23 episodes of the series. The complete series ran in Germany for the first time in the 1990s on the channels ProSieben and Kabel eins , with the episodes already shown by ARD being resynchronized. This German version was created between 1988 and 1994 at KBS Film and its parent company Deutsche Synchron in Berlin. Dialogue director led Engelbert Nordhausen , who also lent his voice Raymond Burr and most of the dialogue books wrote.
In 2009 and 2010 Paramount Home Entertainment Germany released the first two seasons of Perry Mason in half-season boxes on DVD .
Sequels
Under the title The New Perry Mason , there was a new edition of the series from 1973 to 1974 with Monte Markham as Perry Mason and Sharon Acker as Della Street, which was discontinued after 16 episodes.
From 1985 to 1993 he made 26 Perry Mason television films, again with Raymond Burr in the leading role. Next to him, Barbara Hale was the only actress in the original series. Burr was last seriously ill and was only able to film with pain. After his death, four more films were made under the title A Perry Mason Mystery with Barbara Hale at the side of other criminal defense lawyers (one with Paul Sorvino , three with Hal Holbrook ). William Katt , the son of Barbara Hale, played the role of the detective Paul Drake Jr. until 1988. In the films from 1989 to 1995, William R. Moses took on the role of assistant as Ken Malansky.
