Paul Sorvino (born April 13, 1939 in New York City ) is an American actor of Italian descent.

Life

Sorvino was born and raised in Brooklyn .

He studied at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York and made his debut in the musical Bajour in 1964 . He played his first film role in 1970 in Where is' Papa? . In 1973 he was recognized for his role in the play That Championship Season for the Tony Award nominated. In 1976, Sorvino received the leading supporting role alongside Karl Malden and Michael Douglas in the episode Superstar of The Streets of San Francisco , in which he played the quick-tempered New York police sergeant Bert D'Angelo, who followed the trail of a criminal as far as San Francisco Francisco had followed. The spin-off Superstar , broadcast the following year , was a flop and was discontinued after only one season.

Sorvino starred in the 1980 film Cruising alongside Al Pacino and Karen Allen . In 1990 he took on one of his most famous roles, that of high-ranking mafia member Paul Cicero (based on Paul Vario ) in Martin Scorsese's classic film Good Fellas - Three Decades in the Mafia . After this role, Sorvino was later used again and again as a mafia gangster, for example in Rocketeer , Die Firma or Bulletproof Gangster . He took on other important roles in the film Nixon (1995) alongside Anthony Hopkins and in the film American Perfect (1997) alongside Amanda Plummer . He has also appeared on several television series such as We'll Get By , Bert D'Angelo / Superstar and Law & Order .

Sorvino was married twice: until 1988 to Lorraine Davis and from 1991 to 1996 with Vanessa Arico. He has three children, including the actress Mira Sorvino (* 1967).
