action

As he does every year, 18-year-old Doug Martin drives to their house on the lake with his parents, Emily and Brian, over the summer vacation. He and his best buddy Carson start a job at the lake's beach bar to meet girls. Banker Elliot Harper and his wife Lena move in next to the Martins' house. When they get to know each other, Doug is given the opportunity to restore Elliot's newly acquired yacht , as Elliot does not have the time due to his job. Doug accepts this offer because it will raise the money for his college years. He is also enthusiastic about Elliot, because he earns a lot of money through his job and at the same time has a sexy and young wife who fascinates him.

When Elliot is away on business for a few days, Lena locks herself out of the villa and asks Doug for help. He is supposed to break a window in the cellar of the house and open the door for her from the inside. Doug does, but injures himself on the splinters of the window. Since Lena feels responsible for it, she treats him. They get closer and then have sex with each other. The two start a secret affair. They are caught by the gardener of the house and almost caught by Elliot.

One evening Doug receives a call from Lena, who is sitting outside the hospital. He learns that Elliot is beating his wife, cheating on her, and even forcing her to have sex. However, she does not dare to part with him. During the yacht's maiden voyage, Doug and Elliot have a small argument because the engine dies. Lena also tells Doug that she is asking her husband for a divorce so she and Doug can be together. That same evening, Doug is called to Lena, who tells him that she has killed Elliot in self-defense. He first wants to alert the police, but is convinced by Lena to cover up the accident. Doug brings the body onto the yacht and fakes a yacht accident with fire. The two also hide their prepaid cell phones in a boathouse so that they cannot be connected to each other.

Sheriff Big Jack's investigation into the case reveals that Elliot had a $ 10 million life insurance policy. This calls on the curious insurance agent Angie Alvarez, who Lena believes to be the perpetrator. In desperation, Lena claims that she was being stalked by a stalker, which is why Doug is becoming more and more suspected as a neighbor boy. Angie and the sheriff find the broken basement window and Doug's blood on the Harpers estate.

At the same time, Doug realizes that Lena has lured him into a trap to get Elliot's fortune and confides in Carson. He advises him to speak to the sheriff and find evidence of his innocence. He thinks of the cell phones and the gardener. At home, he is confronted by his parents because they found Lena's underwear stolen from him. He also learns that the Harpers gardener was murdered. When the sheriff also appears, he escapes. However, he is watched and followed by Angie, whom Doug now believes to be the culprit. He wants to go to the boathouse to get the cell phones that hold the evidence of his innocence. However, Lena gets ahead of him and then - when the police arrive - pretends to have attempted rape. Doug is arrested by Big Jack. However, he can convince the sheriff, whom he has known for years, of his innocence, who ultimately helps him to escape.

Doug visits Lena at the hotel to get the cell phones. He is surprised by Angie. He shows her the cell phone and she is convinced that Lena was the perpetrator after all. She chains Doug to the bed because he was an accomplice and leads Lena away. As he leaves the hotel, Doug notices the tattoo of Lena and Angie, both of whom have half hearts on their calves. He remembers an earlier conversation with Lena about the tattoo. At that time Lena told him that she had it stabbed for her great love. Doug suddenly realizes that Lena and Angie have been working together the whole time to get close to 10 million with ease. You have only taken advantage of Doug, and he is at risk of murder.

Instead of playing her role of the stalked wife to an end, however, receiving the insurance sum and presenting Doug to the police as the murderer, Lena leaves Doug behind a cell phone, the messages and photos of which can be used to prove that she and Doug did indeed have a relationship Doug should only be portrayed as a scapegoat.

Doug returns to the lakefront house after serving in juvenile detention for an accessory to murder. Lena and Angie are still on the run, but the police are wanted.
