His maternal great-grandfather was Italian , he also has German , Irish , English , French-Canadian and Moroccan ancestors and is descended from the Cherokee . His father is a musician , songwriter and former pastor of an Assemblies-of-God church. His mother was a sign language teacher and singer. He also has three brothers: Kevin (born November 5, 1987), Joe (born August 15, 1989) and Frankie (born September 28, 2000). Joe and Kevin were also members of the Jonas Brothers band . At the beginning of his career, Nick Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes . Nick Jonas made his illness public and is also committed to other young people suffering from diabetes. Among other things, he has also established a foundation to support the American Diabetes Society. Like his brothers, Nick was homeschooled by his mother, Denise.

Private life

Actress and singer Miley Cyrus admitted in a 2008 interview that she and Nick Jonas were a couple from June 2006 to December 2007. They also dated again in the summer of 2009. He and Selena Gomez were then in a relationship from summer 2008 to March 2010 (if they separated in the meantime). Since May 2011 he was in a relationship with singer Delta Goodrem . In February 2012, however, the separation of the two was announced. Since summer 2013 he was with the former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo . In May 2015, Olivia announced the split.

In December 2018, Jonas married actress Priyanka Chopra after they announced their engagement in July of that year.

Career

When Jonas was six years old, his voice was noticed in a hair salon. His mother was introduced to a business manager there. Soon after, he began performing in musicals on Broadway . He played various children's roles in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast , Les Misérables , Annie Get Your Gun and A Christmas Carol .

2002–2004: Discovery and musical beginnings

In 2002, while playing in the musical Beauty and the Beast , Nick Jonas wrote a song with his father called Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer) . This song appeared, with background vocals from the musical cast, on the album Broadway's Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4 , which supports the Equity Fights AIDS campaign. In November 2003 INO Records received a demo recording of the song. The label then released the song for radio stations, where the song became extremely successful, especially on religious channels. In September 2004 he became aware of Columbia Records . Shortly after, Nick Jonas signed a contract with Columbia Records and INO Records and released the song Dear God . In November of the same year a second single was released, a re-recorded version of the song Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer) , with which Jonas' career started. In December 2004 and January 2005 his debut album Nicholas Jonas was released , which was only released to a limited extent after being postponed several times. An exact publication date cannot be found due to the limited publication. Nick Jonas wrote many of the songs on his debut album with his brothers Joe and Kevin.

2005–2009: International breakthrough with the Jonas Brothers

In the spring of 2005, Columbia Records President Steve Greenberg heard Nicholas Jonas' debut album . He didn't like the album, but liked Nick's voice. After meeting with the management of Jonas and hearing the song Please Be Mine , written and recorded by Nick and his two brothers Joe and Kevin, the label decided to sign the three brothers as a band with Daylight Records / Columbia Records to take. This gave rise to the Jonas Brothers band . On August 8, 2006, the band 's debut album, It's About Time , was released, but only reached number 91 on the American charts. The album also received only a limited release. In early 2007, the band then changed the record label because Sony , which owns the rights to Columbia Records, was not interested in a further collaboration. On February 8, 2007 it was announced in a statement that the band is now under contract with Hollywood Records . The second album was called Jonas Brothers and reached number 5 in America and number 19 in Germany.

In 2007 Jonas starred in the second season of the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana with his brothers Kevin and Joe . The episode broke several records and became the most-watched TV episode on cable television with 10.7 million viewers. In 2008 the band starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock , where they starred alongside Demi Lovato and also featured on the hugely successful soundtrack. The television film made Nick Jonas internationally known and reached a rate of 8.9 million viewers, making the film the second most successful film after High School Musical 2 . The same year the band released their third album, A Little Bit Longer . It reached number 1 in the American charts and number 23 in Germany. Then Nick Jonas went on tour with the band. The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 included a total of 86 concerts and took the band to South America , Europe and North America . It served to promote the fourth studio album: the band's last album was released in 2009 under the name Lines, Vines and Trying Times . It also ranked number 1 in America, but only reached number 56 in Germany. In the same year, the Jonas Brothers got their own television series on the Disney Channel. The series Jonas LA was produced for two years and consisted of two seasons with a total of 34 episodes.

On June 20, 2008, Camp Rock ran on the American Disney Channel and the television film made Nick Jonas internationally known. In 2009 a 3D concert film about the Jonas Brothers 'Burnin' Up Tour was released . In 2008 he was seen in a similar documentary about the Best of Both Worlds tour in the cinema. The Jonas Brothers acted as opening act on the tour with Miley Cyrus . In 2010 Nick Jonas took on the role of Marius Pontmercy in the musical Les Miserables , in which he had already participated in another role in 2003. His work lasted from June 21, 2010 to July 24, 2010, and he also participated in the concert on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the musical.

2010–2013: Break and separation of the Jonas Brothers and solo career

In January the band had previously gone on a promotional tour that promoted the album across the United States . On August 7th, the 47 shows Jonas Brothers Live in Concert World Tour 2010 started , with which Nick Jonas and his brothers promoted the sequel to Camp Rock, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam , on the one hand, and songs on the other played from Nick Jonas & the Administration's debut album . In 2011 he went on tour again. The Nick Jonas 2011 tour took place in South America in September and October and focused more on Nick Jonas as a solo artist.

The Jonas Brothers took a break from their band in 2010 to focus more on their solo careers. During this time Nick turned back to the theater, he also had a few guest roles in various television series. After a three-year break from the band, the brothers decided in 2012 to make music together again. On October 11, 2012, the Jonas Brothers had their first concert after the break in the radio city hall and started their tour, which lasted until March 2013. The second tour started in summer 2013. The band planned another tour from October to November 2013, but all concerts were unexpectedly canceled two days before the start. On October 31, 2013, the Jonas Brothers officially announced in an interview with Good Morning America that they want to go their separate ways musically from now on and that they will not release their album V , which has been announced for 2013 .

From August 5th to 7th, 2011 Nick Jonas played the role of Link Larkin in the musical Hairspray . On September 7, 2011, he announced that he would appear as J. Pierrepont in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying from January 24 to July 1, 2012 . He took over the role from Daniel Radcliffe .

A short time later, the release of the studio album Nick Jonas was announced for November 2014. His single and the album made it into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts. His second single Jealous was able to expand the success and made it to number seven on the charts.

In February 2014 Jonas was able to secure a leading role in the DirectTV television series Kingdom . There he can be seen in the role of Nate Kulina since October 2014 . The television series has already been extended for two more seasons. In March 2015, the film Careful What You Wish For was released with him in the lead role of Doug Martin .
