Robin Schulz (born April 28, 1987 in Osnabrück ) is a German DJ and producer .

He won the ECHO four times and was nominated for a Grammy .

Life

By 2013: Commercial breakthrough with Waves

Electronic music has played a major role in Robin Schulz's life since early youth. His father was a renowned DJ in the 1980s. Schulz himself bought his first record player when he was 15.

He gained notoriety in 2013 through various remixes of popular hit singles. The remix of the Dutch top ten hit Waves by Mr. Probz got a lot of attention on his SoundCloud page. His version was released as a single in Germany in early 2014 and shortly afterwards in Austria and Switzerland. The mix reached number one on the single charts in all three countries. The song was then released across Europe. It was also number one in Great Britain, Sweden and Norway and number three in Finland, Denmark and France. It was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Remix Recording category at the end of the year .

2014: Prayer

At the beginning of 2014, Schulz posted another remix on his SoundCloud page, which also quickly achieved a high number of views. He had chosen the song Prayer in C by the French folk pop duo Lilly Wood & the Prick , which was previously only available as an album track. In June 2014 Schulz's remix was released as a single in German-speaking countries and immediately reached number 1 in the charts. After three weeks it had gold status in Germany . In addition, according to evaluations by GfK , the remix was named “Summer Hit 2014”. In April 2020, the remix finally received a diamond record in Germany for one million copies sold, making Prayer in C one of the best-selling singles in Germany .

On September 6, 2014, he released a remix of Alligatoah's song Willst du , which made it into the single charts of German-speaking countries. On September 15, 2014, in cooperation with British singer Jasmine Thompson Schulz's first original composition, Sun Goes Down, was released . This sold half a million times and climbed, among other things, into the top 3 in all German-speaking countries. On September 19, 2014, he released the debut album Prayer , which was not only a national top 10 but also achieved international success. In addition to new productions, it also includes titles by other musicians.

2015: Sugar

In April 2015, the single Headlights was released with the Californian singer-songwriter Ilsey. Robin Schulz's second studio album Sugar was released on September 25, 2015 . The single of the same name, on which the Canadian singer-songwriter Francesco Yates can be heard, was released on July 17, 2015. It is the cover version of a song by the American rapper Baby Bash . The track topped the official single charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In addition, it achieved a third placement in the USA. The song has over two million sales.

On September 18, 2015, Yellow was released, the third advance single (promo single) from his second studio album Sugar . The song was released in collaboration with the producer duo Disciples . This achieved a single chart placement in Germany and Switzerland. The album was released a week later. Sugar was able to surpass the success of Prayer in the German-speaking countries, in Switzerland the album reached number 1 . The single also hit the official album charts in the United States . On this single release, Schulz worked for the first time with the German producer team Junkx as an author and producer, with whose help all Schulz publications were created from now on. In the run-up to this, the producer trio was already involved in mastering and programming work such as Sun Goes Down and Headlights for Schulz.

On November 27, 2015, Show Me Love was the fourth single from the album. This was sung by the German pop singer Richard Judge. In Germany and Austria, the song moved into the top 10. In Switzerland Show Me Love was ranked 12th. They were awarded a gold record in all three countries.

2016: Heatwave & Shed a Light

With Heatwave , the last single from Sugar was released on May 13, 2016 . The song was created in collaboration with the American singer Akon . The studio session took place parallel to those for Akon and DJ Antoines Holiday . While initially there was no success, it later moved into the upper half of the chart for Germany and Austria. In Germany, it was also awarded for 200 thousand units sold.

Shed a Light was released on November 25, 2016. He produced this single in collaboration with the French DJ and producer David Guetta and the US EDM trio Cheat Codes . Incontrast to its predecessor, themixture of dance-pop and deep-house reached the singles charts again in Great Britain and moved back into the top 10 of a number of European countries, but only landed in the middle of the French charts. Awarded a platinum record in Italy in the spring of the following year. It was also recognized in the UK for 200,000 units sold. After a lyric video, the accompanying music video, which was praised for its creativity, was released in early January 2017.

2017: Documentary & OK

On February 24, 2017, a documentary entitled Robin Schulz - The Movie about Schulz's life and work as a disc jockey premiered in Hamburg . A month later he performed at the Ultra Music Festival. There he premiered, among other things, a second collaboration with Jasmine Thompson and the song OK , which was created in collaboration with James Blunt . OK was released as a single on May 19, 2017 . The single reached number two in the German and Swiss single charts. The song is the second single from Robin Schulz 'third studio album Uncovered . The third single, I Believe I'm Fine, followed on September 8, 2017. Three weeks later, the release of Uncovered followed . At the end of the year, Unforgettable was the fourth single from the album.

Since 2018: Various single releases

Another release from his third studio album was released on June 22, 2018. Schulz re-recorded the song Oh Child with the Colombian Latin pop band Piso 21 and released this version as a single.

On August 23, 2018, Robin Schulz released the song Right Now with the American actor, singer and songwriter Nick Jonas . It's a mix of electro pop and Latin American style elements.

The single Speechless , a collaboration with Finnish singer Erika Sirola , was released on November 16, 2018 . The accompanying music video was shot in Mumbai ( India ). With All This Love , the second single was released on May 3, 2019, which has not yet been found on any Schulz album. This is a collaboration with the US R&B singer Harlœ .

On September 13, 2019 Schulz released the single Rather Be Alone , which was created in collaboration with the Greek DJ and producer Nick Martin and the US singer Sam Martin . The music video for it was released on October 7, 2019, which continues the story of All This Love and in which Toni Garrn can be seen as an actress.

In January 2020, Schulz released another single, In Your Eyes . This is a collaboration with the Norwegian singer-songwriter Alida . The accompanying music video continues the story of the two previous singles. On May 29, 2020, the second single of the calendar year was released, Oxygen . It is a collaboration with the Swedish singer-songwriter Winona Oak . Oxygen is the first single to be released under Schulz's newly founded music label Mentalo Music. Three weeks after the release of Oxygen , Schulz and Wes released a new edition of their 1997 single Alane . On July 17, 2020, an official remix of Bob Marley's Sun Is Shining by Robin Schulz was released. The remix made it to number 91 on the Swiss charts, in Germany and Austria a chart entry was denied.
