Waves ( English for 'waves') is a song by the Dutch rapper Mr. Probz . The piece is the first single from his debut album The Treatment and only became better known through a remix by the German DJ Robin Schulz .
Creation and artwork
The song was written and produced by Dennis Princewell Stehr (Mr. Probz). The song was first released under the Left Lane music label, later under the Epic Records and Ultra Records music labels , and distributed under Sony Music Entertainment . On the cover of the original you can see - next to the artist name and song title - a stranded message in a bottle with the inscription "Waves". The cover of the maxi single for the Robin Schulz Remix is identical, only the background color differs from the original.
Publication and promotion
The first publication of Waves took place on November 22, 2013, as a single download single, in the Netherlands . The first publication of Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) took place on 17 January 2014 single download single. Due to the great response, the physical maxi single was released on February 14, 2014 in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . A Europe-wide and a worldwide publication followed a short time later. The maxi-single is a 2-track single which, in addition to the Robin Schulz Remix, also contains the original version of Waves , as a B-side . In addition to the regular maxi single, there is also an extended maxi single that includes an additional remix by Robin Schulz. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, various vinyl records by Waves have also been released, all of which differ in the selection and number of B-sides.
In order to promote the song, live appearances in the ARD morning magazine and the ZDF television garden of Mr. Probz followed. At the Echo Awards 2015 , Mr. Probz and Robin Schulz performed live together on German television for the first time during a Schulz medley .
In an interview with the Daily Star , Mr. Probz said the following about the release of Waves : “ Waves was planned as a promo song, it didn't even make it on the album I was working on. The original version was purely acoustic, and it was really well received. And then all of a sudden there were all these bootlegs and remix versions that were also doing well. I then chose Robin Schulz's remix, and it was only logical that I should release it. "

Music video
The music video for Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) was filmed in Tulum ( Mexico ) and premiered on February 4, 2014 on the Ultra Records YouTube profile . The video begins with a stranded man. At first he tries to survive on the island. Later he thinks back to what happened between him and his girlfriend. Sometimes he hallucinates and sees her with him. In the course of thought, he and his girlfriend (played by the model Maryna Linchuk ) are initially seen in happy situations. Later the two are in a beach bar . Here she flirts with another man, when she is confronted by her boyfriend, an argument arises and finally she separates from him. The video ends with him getting drunk in a swimming pool , drowning, and waking up floating again. The total length of the video is 3:50 minutes.

Charts and chart placements
Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) reached number one in the single charts in Germany and stayed at the top for a total of four weeks, 14 weeks in the top 10 and 59 weeks in the charts. In the German airplay charts , the single also reached the top position for four weeks . In Austria the single reached position one and was able to stay at the top for a total of four weeks, ten weeks in the top 10 and 33 weeks in the charts. In Switzerland the single reached position one and was able to stay in position one for three weeks, 17 weeks in the top 10 and 53 weeks in the charts. In the United Kingdom, the single also peaked, staying at number one for two weeks, in the top 10 for eleven weeks and in the charts for 70 weeks. In the United States, the single reached position 14 on the charts in 25 chart weeks. In the Netherlands, the original version of Waves reached position six in the charts and stayed in the charts for a total of 28 weeks. For Mr. Probz this is the first chart success outside of his home country, the Netherlands. In the Netherlands it is his second chart success and his first top 10 hit after Sukkel voor deliede . For Robin Schulz it is his first chart success worldwide.

Awards for music sales
Waves and Waves (Robin Schulz Remix) have been awarded gold four times and platinum 34 times worldwide. The single received gold and platinum awards for six million units sold. On October 16, 2018, Schulz received a "Multi Platinum Award" for twelve million units sold. For both performers, it represents the greatest success of their careers to this day.
