Mr. Probz (born May 15, 1984 in Zoetermeer ; actually Dennis Princewell Stehr ) is a Dutch singer and rapper .

biography

Dennis Princewell Stehr's parents come from Denmark and the Netherlands Antilles . He started out as a graffiti artist and then became a rapper. Under the name of Mr. Probz, he first drew attention as one of the leading actors in Bolletjes Blues , the first Dutch hip-hop film. The actors had their first hit in 2006 with the song Welkom in ons leven from the soundtrack (number 46 in the Dutch Top 100). He gained further hip-hop experience in the USA as a singer for The Alchemist , Joe Budden and Raekwon, among others .

Another success for Mr. Probz two years later was Gründijp me niet verkeerd , for which he received a State Award, the Dutch Hip-Hop Prize, for the best video. Another hit in 2010 was Meisje luister on the side of the Amsterdam rapper Kleine Viezerik . In the same year he was shot as an uninvolved observer of an argument.

His breakthrough beyond the hip-hop scene had Mr. Probz in 2013. With the Opposites he had a chart hit in the Nederlandse Top 40 with the title Sukkel voor de liefde . Shortly afterwards he even made it into the top ten with his own single Waves . The video was viewed millions of times on YouTube . In September, his debut album The Treatment was a hit in the album charts.

Shortly after its success in the Netherlands, Waves was discovered by German DJ Robin Schulz and distributed as a bootleg remix. He achieved seven-digit access numbers on Soundcloud and gained international attention. At the beginning of 2014 the song was released in the Robin Schulz version in Germany. At the end of January it entered the German charts and shortly afterwards came to number one . It reached platinum status at the end of June . Waves also rose to the top of the charts in March in Austria and Switzerland . After its release in April 2014, the song also debuted at number 1 in England.

After the worldwide success of the song Waves , Stehr recorded a remix of the version by Robin Schulz. The second verse of the track was re-sung by the American singer and rapper Chris Brown . The rapper TI was also involved. The remix brought the song to the charts one more time. In the USA in particular, the mix increased commercial success.

At the end of 2014, the Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell announced that his album United We Are, which will be released in January 2015, will feature the track Birds Fly , the vocal part of which was contributed by Mr. Probz.
