The Opposites is a rap duo from Amsterdam , the Netherlands , founded in 2004 , consisting of Willem de Bruin and Twan van Steenhoven.
history
The two rappers started rapping in 2003 when Willem de Bruin had to write a rap as a detention at school. He discovered his talent for it and decided to concentrate on it. According to himself, he became addicted to rap. The name of the group (German: "Gegensätze") resulted from the very different looks of the two musicians.
In 2004 the first songs appeared, mostly on compilations with other rappers such as Yes-R , Brace , Brutus and Baas B. They brought out their first album Youngsters in 2005 with English-language lyrics. Afterwards they only rapped in their mother tongue, Dutch . They switched to the record label Top Notch and their second album De Fik Er In was released in late 2005. The single Slaap from the album came out in 2006 and became the band's first hit, making it to number four in the Dutch Top 100 charts.
The single Slapeloze nachten reached number 1 in the Dutch Top 40 charts in 2012 .
The Opposites have won multiple awards including the Edison Music Award , multiple TMF Awards, and 3FM Awards.
