A duet (from the Latin duo 'two' ) is a musical work that is performed by two musicians ( ensemble ) or was composed for this purpose:

  • either with really only two participants in a work of chamber music ;
  • or with two (mostly vocal ) soloists accompanied by other instruments, especially an aria with two soloists.

While the work or lecture is called a duet , the two musicians or singers are usually called a duo . The group of people is also called a duet less often .

It also happens in the animal kingdom that two partners sing in a duet .
