A nonet (of lat. Nonus "ninth") is in the music , a group of nine performers or a piece of music for such a group. A typical instrumentation is the wind quintet with flute , oboe , clarinet , horn and bassoon together with four strings: violin , viola , cello and double bass .

Significant nonets were written by: Louis Spohr (Nonet in F major, Op. 31), Franz Lachner (Nonet in F major), Louise Farrenc , Joseph Rheinberger , Bohuslav Martinů and Alois Hába .

Another line-up can be found with Charles Gounod ( petite symphony for 9 wind instruments): 1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, 2 horns.

The Czech nonet , founded in 1924, became famous .
