Yellow Claw is a Dutch DJ team from Amsterdam . It consists of Jjim Taihuttu aka Jim Aasgier and Nils Rondhuis aka Nizzle. Founding member Leo Roelandschap alias Bizzey left the formation in summer 2016. Their music can be described as a mixture of different genres. Trap , Hip-Hop , Dubstep , Hardstyle , Electro House and Moombahton were represented in particular .

history

2010–2012: musical beginnings

The trio started with several small appearances in different clubs in Amsterdam. A night party at Jimmy Woo, one of the most popular clubs in the city, ultimately made one of the most important leaps into the Dutch DJ scene. In 2012 they received a contract with the Dutch Sony imprint "Captain". Several singles appeared there between 2012 and 2013 , which were placed in both the Dutch and Belgian charts : Krokobil , Nooit meer slapen , Thunder and Last Night Ever . The videos for the pieces received several million clicks on YouTube . During this time the trio performed at several Dutch music festivals: DirtyDutch Festival, Sneakerz Festival, Latin Village Festival and Solar Festival. In 2013 they signed with " Mad Decent ", the label of DJ Diplo.

2013–2014: commercial breakthrough

In 2013 they started with the song Thunder , which was created in collaboration with the hip-hop duo The Opposites. In Belgium they reached the top 10 for the first time with the track. The title is featured on The Opposites studio album Slapeloze nachten . Their first international EP , Amsterdam Trap Music , was released in March 2013, and their second EP, Amsterdam Twerk Musik , was released in September 2013 . In particular, the song DJ Turn It Up on the latter developed into a great club and festival success due to the stylistic devices known from the electro-house # Big-Room genre, which was very popular at the time .

After their releases had appeared exclusively on Diplo's “Mad Decent” since the project was founded, they signed a contract with the successful Dutch label “ Spinnin 'Records ” in autumn 2013 . In November 2013 the first single on "Spinnin '" was released. This is called Shotgun and was sung by X-Factora winner Rochelle . This is the third time that Yellow Claw has reached the Dutch single charts after Krokobil and Thunder, and for the first time it has reached the top 10 in its home country.

Together with Martin Garrix and Cesqeaux, they produced the song Psycho in the spring of 2014 , the success of which was not aimed commercially, as with Shotgun , but in clubs. In May 2014 she founded her own record label "Barong Family", which is an imprint of "Spinnin '". Shortly thereafter, Lick Dat appeared as the label's first release, which was produced with the bass house duo Mightyfools and two collaborations with Yung Felix followed. Shortly after it was founded, the “Barong Family” developed into a springboard for later successful artists such as Coone and Wiwek .

On November 24, 2014, they released Till It Hurts as a commercial follow-up single to Shotgun . The song is sung by Ayden Veerbeek. In the Dutch and Belgian singles charts, the track was able to surpass the success of its predecessors and moved up to number 5 in their home country. The song is a mixture of their usual trap style and many progressive and electro house characteristics.

2015: Debut album Blood For Mercy

In August 2015, the first advance single of their debut album, which was announced for autumn 2015, was released. This is titled Wild Mustang and provides the meanwhile ninth collaboration with producer Cesqeaux and US singer Becky G represents.

On November 20, 2015, the trio released their debut album Blood For Mercy via Mad Decent. It was able to enter the album charts in Belgium, the Netherlands and the USA, among others. Collaborations took place with Tiesto , Cesqeaux and Pusha T , among others . Parallel to the single releases In My Room with DJ Mustard , Ty Dolla $ ign and Tyga , No Class with Mightyfools, Sin City and Catch Me with Flux Pavilion and Naaz, a remix version of the album was also released, including San Holo , Moksi and Rain Man contributed.

The invitation was on June 15, 2016. The vocals were provided by the then 16-year-old Dutch singer Yade Lauren. Stylistically, the title is more in the field of future bass music with influences from tropical house and similar EDM genres.

On June 19, 2016, MC Bizzey left the trio after announcing that he would look after his family more. EDC Las Vegas was his last appearance together with Yellow Claw.

End of 2016–2017: Lot Amsterdam

Love & War followed on from Invitation's style and was also sung by Yade Lauren. The track was able to convince with more energy and advanced to number 32 on the official Dutch single charts. Love & War was also successful in iTunes stores in other countries such as Germany and Austria .

On December 30, 2016, the remix pack for their single Ocho Cinco was released, which they recorded together with the French DJ and producer DJ Snake . Contributions come from, among others, Cesqeaux, Autoerotique and Mike Cervello. As a result of the release of the remix EP, the song reached the official French singles charts. A second collaboration with DJ Snake followed, which also contained vocals by the Swedish singer Elliphant . The song was titled Good Day and was based less on hardstyle as its predecessor and more on DJ Snake's commercial trap style.

On March 24, 2017, they released the song Light Years . The track is sung by Rochelle, with whom they worked together for the first time since the single Shotgun from 2013. The track is the last pre-release from their upcoming studio album. On April 7, 2017 it was released. It was made available on Spotify a week earlier. It is titled Los Amsterdam and, in addition to the pre-singles, also includes collaborations with Tinie Tempah , Juicy J and Sophie Simmons. The album was made far more commercial than their previous album. It was able to reach the top 10 in their homeland.

Outside of their activities in the trap scene, they were able to gain a foothold in other genres with various crossovers. Her single DJ Turn It Up was also very popular in the big room, Ocho Cinco in the hardstyle and, most recently, Love and War in the future bass scene.

2018: New Blood

New Blood is the third studio album by the Dutch electronic duo. The album was released on June 22, 2018 by their own label, Barong Family. This time Yellow Claw worked again with several producers and singers, including DJ Snake, San Holo, Moksi, ASAP Ferg, Tabitha Nauser and Sofía Reyes .
