Gustav Höhne
Gustav Höhne (born February 17, 1893 in Kruschwitz , † February 21, 1951 in Oberursel (Taunus) ) was a German officer , most recently general of the infantry in World War II .
Life
On March 27, 1911, Höhne joined the 1st Warmian Infantry Regiment No. 150 of the Prussian Army as a flag junior . With this regiment he took part in the First World War, was wounded several times and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , the Knight's Cross of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords, the Wound Badge in Silver and the Hanseatic Cross of the City of Hamburg. After the end of the war, Höhne u. a. as adjutant of the 75th Infantry Brigade and was accepted into the Provisional Reichswehr in September 1919 . With the formation of the Reichswehr, he was transferred to the 2nd (Prussian) Infantry Regiment , to which he belonged until the end of January 1930.
Converted to the Wehrmacht on March 1, 1938, he was promoted to colonel . At the beginning of the Second World War he led the 28th Infantry Regiment as part of the 14th Army during the attack on Poland (September 1939) and from May 1940 during the Western campaign . He was promoted to major general in August 1940 and appointed commander of the 8th Infantry Division on October 25 . During the attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941 he led his troops in the formation of the VIII Army Corps across the Nyemen to Grodno and then took part in the encirclement of Soviet troops in the Wolkowysk area. In the spring of 1942 his troops took part in the relief attack of the Seydlitz group on the Demyansk pocket , in the summer of 1942 his division was reclassified to the 8th Jäger Division . Already on August 1, 1942, he was promoted to Lieutenant General , followed on May 1, 1943 by the rank of General of the Infantry. On July 20, 1943 he was appointed Commanding General of the VIII Army Corps in the 16th Army . Finally, from November 23, 1944 until the end of the war, he was in charge of the LXXXIX general command . Army Corps in the area of the 1st Army on the Western Front .
