Future bass (often incorrectly referred to as future pop ) is a genre of music that originated in the UK , USA , China , Japan and Australia around 2006 . While trap music was initially just an influencing factor, the genre has become very blurred with the so-called love trap.

history

Future-Bass developed from the footsteps of the trap , footwork and UK garage sound. The elements were linked to the extent that they are rhythmically based on trap music, but with a strong focus on the bassline. In this way, a unique sound was formed, which quickly gained attention, especially on YouTube. Independent channels like Trap-Nation published songs of the fast-growing genre. Many titles served as background music for lifestyle videos due to the sound, which is often described as happy and at the same time relaxing. Due to the overlap with the Lovetrap music style, the genre was reoriented between 2012 and 2014. The sound was defined and modernized in particular by musicians such as Flume , Illenium or San Holo . After Flume was already able to establish the future bass scene in his home country, DJ Snake with Middle and Chainsmokers with Roses achieved their first global commercial successes in 2015 . In 2016, the genres Future Bass and Lovetrap almost completely merged. Another personality that emerged from the style and developed into one of the most frequently mentioned names in this context was the DJ and producer Marshmello . Furthermore, variations and commercial crossovers dominated both sales and all dance charts in 2016. Artists like Martin Garrix , Headhunterz and Yellow Claw switched from their electro-house - or hardstyle- influenced music to the future bass for the short or long term .

Influences

Future bass is described as having a strong bassline focus. This is usually created with detuned synthesizer sounds and usually occurs as a tilting or square wave . The sound waves are mostly modulated louder or quieter by normalization or the use of a low frequency oscillator and its audio filter (typically a low-pass or high-pass filter). It is also common to use a “twinkly” sound (a gradual rise in pitch), including arpeggio chords and vocoders .

In addition to the forerunner sounds of trap , footwork and UK garage music, traces of hip hop and especially the vocal cuts known from electro house also flowed into the future bass scheme in the course of the 2010s. The use of tropical house elements in future bass and love trap productions also became popular. The record label " Kontor Records " had the term "Trapical" established in the course of this. Examples are the song The Ocean by Mike Perry or Poseidon by Neptunica.

Subgenres

Kawaii future bass

Kawaii Future-Bass is a sub-genre of the Future-Bass. It is known for its predominantly happy and sweet mood, as well as the strong influence of Japanese pop culture. Often used elements are chiptune , square wave , samples from the anime / video game cosmos and door as well as bed squeak. On digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify and Soundcloud, artists such as Hyper Potions, Aiobahn or Snail's House receive millions of views.
