Madeon
Hugo Pierre Leclercq (born May 30, 1994 ), known as Madeon , is an electro-pop producer from Nantes , France . He gained popularity through his video Pop Culture , which he published on the video portal YouTube and which had already reached over 48 million views by January 2019.
biography
Leclercq began composing music at the age of 11 - at that time still under the name DJ Deamon, an anagram of today's stage name Madeon. The first official releases under this name were a remix for the song "Wake Up" by Sun Kidz in 2008 and the in-house production "Still Loving You". Both productions belong to the electronic genre Hands up . Later the genre changed and the name was changed to Madeon.
After Leclercq had won a competition in 2010 in which he remixed "The Island" by Pendulum , he began to remix other tracks by artists in the electronic genre in the following years . He gained international fame through a video about his mash-up Pop Culture , which he uploaded to YouTube in July 2011. In this mash-up he used 39 songs that he mixed together with a Novation Launchpad. The video gained popularity very quickly and reached over 7 million views within a few months (as of January 2019: over 48 million).
Leclercq had his first live appearance in April 2011 in Paris, where he appeared as a support act for Yelle . During the show he also uses Novations SL MKII, FL Studio and Ableton Live in addition to his launch pads . Leclercq was featured several times on Pete Tong's radio show "15 Minutes of Fame" on BBC Radio 1 . His debut single Icarus and his remix of Deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon" were played in full for the first time on this show. His first live recording was for Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 gala event in Hull on January 27, 2012, where he gave a 20-minute concert. A debut EP had already been announced for the end of 2011, but was canceled in favor of several singles. His first single, Icarus , was released on February 24, 2012 through his own label "popculture". On November 11th, he was involved in the show as a DJ at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 in Frankfurt am Main . He hung up while the TV was broadcasting the advertisement and was also involved in various other places in the course of the show.
As a sign of his rapid international success, he was invited to appear at three of the most important American festivals. The Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Coachella in California and the Electric Daisy Carnival in New York. He was also invited to many other festivals in the UK, for example to play alongside Swedish House Mafia at the "Milton Keynes Bowl". Icarus appeared in the US version of You Can Dance in May 2012. Leclercq names The Beatles and Daft Punk as his greatest influences .
In 2016 he announced that he would go on tour with his DJ colleague and friend Porter Robinson . This is called the "Shelter Tour". Shelter is also the title of their first single together. Shelter can be classified as part of the future bass, which was very popular at the time .
