Becky G , actually Rebbeca Marie Gómez (born March 2, 1997 in Inglewood ) is an American singer , dancer and actress .

Life

All grandparents are from the state of Jalisco , Mexico. Rebbeca's parents (Alejandra and Francisco Gomez) were born in the United States. Rebecca was born in Inglewood near Los Angeles , where she also grew up. When she was nine, her family moved into her grandparents' garage because Becky's parents could no longer pay the rent. She starred in commercials and began making music in her early teen years. In 2011, she posted a cover of Kanye West's song Otis on YouTube , on which producer Dr. Luke's attention. This marked the beginning of her music career.

On October 2, 2012, the single Oath , Becky G sings alongside British singer Cher Lloyd , was released. It reached number 73 on the US charts . Her first single Problem (The Monster Remix) , which she recorded with Will.i.am , served as the soundtrack for the animated film Hotel Transylvania . On April 23, 2013, she released Becky from the Block, a cover of Jennifer Lopez 'song Jenny from the Block from 2002. She changed the text, which now refers to Inglewood instead of the Bronx in the original. The video for the following single, Play It Again , by Dr. Luke, Ammo, and Cirkut was released on May 6, 2013. Her song Can't Get Enough , a collaboration with rapper Pitbull , sung in a mixture of English and Spanish, reached number one on the Billboard Latin Rhythmic Airplay Chart. Her single Shower was released on April 23, 2014 , the accompanying video, in which the rapper T. Mills has a cameo , followed on June 29. The single is their most successful to date, it's more of a pop than a rap song. In October 2014 she appeared several times on Katy Perry's Prismatic tour . In the same year she received a Radio Disney Music Award for best newcomer.

According to Time , Becky G is one of the 25 Most Influential Teenagers of 2014. In 2015 she made a guest appearance on the Disney series Austin & Ally and as "Valentina" in the hip-hop series Empire . In 2017 she played the lead role of Trini Kwan / Yellow Ranger in the feature film Power Rangers .

In November 2019, Becky G was chosen as the embodiment of the virtual character Qiyana from League of Legends to represent the band "True Damage" with Thutmose , Soyeon from (G) I-DLE , Keke Palmer and Duckwrth . The published song GIANTS was played live in the final of the World Cup.
