Cody Robert Simpson (born January 11, 1997 in Gold Coast ) is an Australian R&B and pop musician. He started his career with self-made videos on YouTube .

Life

In 1997, Cody Robert Simpson was born to Brad and Angie Simpson in Gold Coast, Queensland . He has a younger sister and a younger brother. He started playing the guitar at the age of seven and wrote his first songs at the age of eight. The main influences on his music are Jack Johnson , John Mayer , Neil Young and Bob Dylan .

In Australia, Cody Simpson broke several swimming records and won championships. In Australia he is the fastest child to date in the 50-meter butterfly swim .

Cody Simpson has lived in Los Angeles since 2010 .

Career

At the age of eleven he first posted videos of his music on YouTube. Soon after, Grammy- nominated record producer Shawn Campbell , who has also written music for pop stars like Jay-Z and Missy Elliott , got in touch with Simpson and recorded the songs One and Perfect with him . In January 2010 he held his first meet and greet in New York . His channel on YouTube was in the top 10 most watched channels from Australia this month. In June 2010 he recorded his songs Summertime and iYiYi with Flo Rida for Atlantic Records . That same month iYiYi was released as the first single.

In July and August 2010 he toured the USA with other artists as part of the Camplified 2010 Tour . This was Cody's first tour. In December 2010 his first EP 4U was released on Atlantic Records. From April to May 2011, the Waiting-4-U tour, undertaken together with Greyson Chance , took him through America. In September 2011 the EP Coast to Coast was released . In June 2012 the EP Preview to Paradise was released ; the titles on it were part of the first album Paradise , which was released in October 2012. From July to September 2012, Cody toured the United States with Big Time Rush . In November 2012 he gave four concerts in Great Britain for the first time in Europe. In February and March 2013 he appeared again in England and Dublin, then in several European cities, often in support of Justin Bieber .

In 2014, Cody Simpson separated from Atlantic Records, soon after founded his own label Coast House and switched to music from the genres of rock and Americana . He himself says of his decision that he was originally too young to really have an idea of ​​what his music should sound like. In early 2015, Cody Simpson performed at the SXSW music festival . His album Free , produced by Cisco Adler , was released in July 2015. He called it his first real album. The cover of the album's first single, Flower , was photographed by his girlfriend Miley Cyrus in her garden in Los Angeles. On the album he worked with Donavon Frankenreiter and G. Love . The song Wilderness was released in collaboration with the Surfrider Foundation .

In September 2017 Simpson released the EP Wave One with his new band as Cody Simpson & The Tide . The band includes singer Simpson on guitar, Reef Boii on bass and Adrian Cota on drums.
