World Music Awards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The World Music Awards are given annually to musicians from various music categories who have the highest record sales worldwide.

history

The event was launched in Monaco in 1989 and was sponsored by Albert von Monaco . It took place in Monte Carlo until 2003 and was broadcast live in the USA. Therefore, out of consideration for US prime time, it was moved to the United States, where it took place in Las Vegas in 2004 and in Los Angeles in 2005. The World Music Awards in November 2006 took place in London and then returned to Monte Carlo. The event was held here in 2010.

John Martinotti and Melissa Corken were the executive producers and founders of the awards. Mark Young (agent of Jennifer Lopez and other top stars) was talent producer and Claudia Lang was in charge of PR. The international businessman Jack Z. Sherman was the ambassador of the "World Music Awards" in 2009/2010 and negotiated at government level with Qatar, Brazil and China as possible future venues.

Currently, the brand name "World Music Awards" is used on Twitter and Facebook as a platform for news from the music industry, which is very popular. This suggests that after the break there may be a new edition of the awards after all.

Charity

The aim was also to combine the awards with a charitable cause. The income from sponsorship and television money flowed annually into the Monaco Aide & Presence Foundation under the honorary chairmanship of Prince Albert II and was also financially supported by the Monegasque government.

Since the charitable support began, the World Music Awards have built several schools, hospitals and orphanages with the help of the Monaco Aide & Presence Foundation . In 2006 a hospital and an orphanage are to be built in Cameroon.

The awards

For the awards, the individual national phono associations determine the current sales figures and report them to the headquarters of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in London. This then decides who will receive the coveted prizes.

The awards are given to male and female performers and bands that made the most sales worldwide during the year.

There are also awards for nationally most successful artists in various countries with a large music market.

There was no award ceremony in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
