During his youth, Blunt spent ten years in Soest ( Möhnesee ) when his father was stationed there with the Rhine Army . Blunt attended Elstree School in Woolhampton and later Harrow School . There he got a scholarship from the British Army for the Bristol University before his training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, was able to close. He became an officer in the Life Guards , served with his regiment within the framework of KFOR in Kosovo (including the capture of the Pristina airport and the conflict with the Russian advance into Pristina ) and took part as pallbearer at Queen Mum's funeral on April 9, 2002 part. During his service in Kosovo he wrote the song No Bravery . In 2002, he ended his six-year service as captain .
Career
A year after leaving the Army, Blunt signed with EMI Music Publishing as a singer and songwriter. The former singer of the 4 Non Blondes , Linda Perry , who had already written and produced songs for Pink , Courtney Love and Christina Aguilera , became aware of him. Perry signed Blunt to her new label, Custard Records , and he recorded his debut album Back to Bedlam in Los Angeles with producer Tom Rothrock .
Blunt's debut UK single was High . The piece did not make it into the top 100 of the UK singles chart. Nevertheless, the song was nominated for a Vodafone - commercial in Italy selected and there to the top 10 hit. High also became a promotional song for Deutsche Telekom , as a result of which Blunt was often heard on German television during the 2006 World Cup . His second single Wisemen landed at number 44 on the UK charts and led Back to Bedlam to make it into the top 20 of the album charts. In 2004 Blunt appeared on Elton John's tour in the opening act. His third single, You're Beautiful, gave him his breakthrough. The song entered the UK charts at number 12 and climbed to number 1 within six weeks. The song was played frequently on the radio, bringing the album to number 1 as well. Following the great success of You're Beautiful in the UK the song was also released in the rest of Europe and one of the biggest summer hits there in 2005. When the song was released in the USA in autumn 2005 , he was the first British artist in nine years who managed to jump to the top of the Billboard charts . He inherited Elton John, who succeeded in doing this in 1997 with Candle in the Wind .
In August 2007, 1973 was released as a single. The piece in which Blunt sings about the opening year of his favorite club, the Pacha discotheque in Ibiza , was the first release from his second album All the Lost Souls , which went on the international market in September 2007.
