history

The label was founded in 2003 by Linda Perry. In search of potential artists, Perry went to Austin , Texas for the annual South by Southwest Festival. There she was one of the 15 or so listeners to a concert given by the then unknown English singer James Blunt on the 18th floor of the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Perry offered Blunt to sign him to her label. At that time there was no artist under contract with Custard Records . Blunt signed and in October 2004 the label released James Blunt's Back to Bedlam, the first album, which then sold over 14 million copies worldwide.

Also in 2003 the Czech post-punk band Sunshine followed, which released the EP Electric! In January 2005 . Kill! Kill! released. In 2005 Linda Perry released her own solo debut In Flight from 1996 again under her own label. In the same year, Perry signed the American singer Sierra Swan . In 2006 Swan released her first solo album Ladyland with Custard Records . Hit Quarters, an internet portal for A & Rs , led Custard Records to number 6 of the most important record labels in 2006.

In 2007 the American rock band Bigelf and the American singer Ben Jelen follow . Jelen released his second album Ex-Sensitive in July 2007 . In September of the same year, James Blunt's second album, All The Lost Souls, followed, and in October, Bigelf released their 2003 album, Hex, with Custard Records .
