Grigori Leps

Grigori Viktorovich Lepsweridze ( Russian: Григорий Викторович Лепсверидзе ; born July 16, 1962 in Sochi , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ), known by his stage name Grigory Leps , is a Russian singer and songwriter of Georgian descent. His songs are a mixture of rock, pop and Russian chansons .

biography

Grigori Leps was born into a Georgian family in Sochi and graduated from a music school. After serving in the army, he began singing and playing in rock bands and performing as a singer in restaurants. During this time Leps developed an alcohol addiction and was addicted to drugs . In order to gain distance from his previous life, he went to Moscow . There followed more appearances in restaurants until he got a record deal, and in 1995 the album Chrani was bog (German: Protector God) was released. When his song Natali became a huge hit, Leps was hospitalized due to drugs and alcoholism and was about to die. From this point on he decided to be abstinent. In 1997 Leps released his second album Zelaja Schisn (German: a whole life).

In 2000 he released the album Spasibo Ljudi (Thank you guys) with the big hits Schelest and Nu i tschto . On this album the change in style of the singer could be seen. He left the chanson genre and turned more to rock music . In the same year he lost his voice and had to have an operation. In 2002 his album Na Strunach Doschdja (On the strings of rain) was released, with the big hit Rjumka wodki na stole . In 2004, a cover album with songs by Vladimir Semyonovich Vysotsky was released in rock version. A video clip was shot for the song Parus and the album took top positions in the charts. In 2005 the album Isbrannoje..10 let was released . In 2006, Grigori Leps released two albums that achieved high success rates. The second part of the album Wtoroi , which was released in 2007, was presented at a concert in the Kremlin Palace .

In October 2013, Leps was banned from entry by the US Treasury Department (black list). According to the USA, he is said to have worked as a messenger for Vladislav Leontjew.

Music genre

Leps is known for his wide vocal range. He has a deep, growling voice. His style mixes rock and pop music and contains elements of Russian chanson .

Personal

In 2000 he met his second wife, the dancer Anna, and married the former ballet dancer. With her he has daughters Ewa (* 2002) and Nicole (* 2007) as well as son Iwan (* 2010). He has a daughter Inga (* 1984) from his previous marriage.
