Justin Bieber, 2009

Justin Bieber was born in 1994 in London in the Canadian province of Ontario to Patricia Lynn "Pattie" Mallette and Jeremy Jack Bieber and grew up in Stratford , Ontario. His mother, who also grew up in Stratford, was 18 years old at the time of his birth. She raised him as a single parent with the support of her parents. His parents separated when Bieber was ten months old, and he kept in touch with his father, who is now married to another woman and has three other children. Justin Bieber's paternal grandfather was German who emigrated to Canada . The German family name comes from him.

After Bieber had signed his record deal in October 2008, he moved with his mother to Atlanta in the US state of Georgia . He now lives in Los Angeles . From 2010 to 2012, Bieber was in a relationship with the American singer and actress Selena Gomez . In January 2014 he was briefly jailed for an illegal alcoholic car race.

At the end of 2017, a new relationship with Selena Gomez followed, but the two separated a short time later.

Career

2007: First local appearances and creation of internet videos

After making a few small appearances as a child, including B. in church, he entered a local talent competition called the Stratford Star Competition in 2007 at the age of twelve , in which he finished fourth. A few months later, he took second place in another local singing competition. His mother videotaped the performance and later posted it online on YouTube to allow relatives to watch the performance as well. This was followed by other appearances in similar talent competitions, and he also appeared as a street musician at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival , with which he also earned money. Many of these appearances were also posted by his mother on YouTube, and a smaller local fan base formed.

2008: Discovery and record deal

In 2008, American music manager Scooter Braun became aware of Bieber's YouTube videos. He contacted Bieber's mother, who allowed her then thirteen-year-old son to accompany Braun to Atlanta to make demo recordings . It was there that Bieber met Usher , who worked in the same recording studio and, together with Braun, runs the media company and record label RBMG . The company signed Bieber.

Then they forced a contract with a major label that should facilitate the release of music. However, this turned out to be a difficult undertaking at first, as the singer was considered too young and he had no major corporation such as The Walt Disney Company or Nickelodeon behind him. So he was rejected by Epic Records , among others . Usher contacted talent manager Chris Hicks, who worked with him to organize a meeting with Antonio "LA" Reid , then CEO of the Island Def Jam Music Group . This let Bieber sign a record deal with Island Records in October 2008 . Since then, Hicks has appeared as Bieber's contact person at the record label. Scooter Braun acts as the singer's manager.
