Love Yourself is a song by Justin Bieber and the third single from his fourth studio album Purpose . The single was released on November 8, 2015 and has since sold over 11 million times.

Creation and publication

In September 2015, Bieber announced in an interview that British singer Ed Sheeran had written him a song for his new studio album. In another interview with Capital FM, Bieber revealed a few things about the song. He said, “It's just me and a guitar. Basically that's how I started, playing on the street with a guitar. "Regarding Ed Sheeran, he said:" I think he's one of the most talented writers in the game right now, so just to have his input and his stories and our stories and match them up together and say 'What have you been through ?,' and telling the same story. "

Love Yourself first appeared on Apple's Beats 1 .

Music video

The music video for Love Yourself was released on November 14, 2015 via Vevo on Bieber's YouTube channel and has been viewed over 1.4 billion times since then (as of October 2018). The video begins with Bieber saying, "Love isn't 'do this for me and I'm going to do this for you.' That's not what love is. Love is just 'I'm gonna do this for you because I wanna do this for you.' "Then the married couple Keone and Mari Madrid dance through their house. The video ends with the woman waking up and finding a note on the man's pillow that says Love Yourself .

Germany

Love Yourself entered the German single charts at number seven in the 47th calendar week. In the weeks that followed, the song first fell to number 11, before it reached the highest position in the 6th calendar week in 2016 with number 3, where it could only stay for one week. In total, the song stayed in the German charts for 48 weeks. It was awarded three gold records for over 600,000 sales.

United States

Love Yourself debuted at # 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 . With this, Bieber reached his ninth top 10 single and his third top 10 single from his album Purpose . It also made it to number 2 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs and number 4 on the Billboard Streaming Charts. The single sold over 140,000 times and was streamed around 17.4 million times. The following week it then fell to number 7. In the 6th week of 2016, Bieber pushed Sorry from the top of the charts with Love Yourself . Love Yourself became his third single at number 1 in a row. Purpose became the first album since Justin Timberlake's FutureSex / LoveSounds to produce three number one singles.

The song sold over 2.8 million copies in the United States and was awarded six platinum records.
