U Smile is a song by the Canadian musician Justin Bieber . It was released on August 24, 2010 as the third and final single from Bieber's debut album My World 2.0 , whereupon it entered the charts in the USA and Canada, among others. The title was previously released on March 16, 2010 as the album's second promotional sound carrier .

background

In an interview with MTV , Bieber said about the song that it was one of the best he had ever recorded. It is also a flashback to all the great songs he grew up with. He also wrote the title for his fans, as they helped him to achieve his dreams.

In August 2010, Nick Pittsinger , a Florida- born musician, slowed the song down by around 800% so that it was now about 35 minutes. The action received a lot of media attention.

Music video

Background and reception

The video was first shown on September 30, 2010. Bieber said of the video that it was about letting his fans experience the "ultimate fantasy of each of his followers: to be his girlfriend".

Mawuse Ziegbe was positive about the video and indicated that it shows a "more mature Beaver who seems to enjoy the quiet moments with his girlfriend away from the never-ending fan hysteria". She was also of the opinion that the clip portrayed Bieber's talents as an instrumentalist very well.

Summary

The video begins with sequences in which a group of girls is standing on a street in front of a building while Bieber tries to leave it undetected. However, the group discovers him and runs towards him. Finally, he signs autographs and takes photos with his fans. In doing so, Bieber begins to be interested in a girl from the group. He asks her if they want to meet later, and she agrees. The song only begins in the next scene and Bieber can be seen in an empty room playing the piano and singing. Shortly afterwards his date shows up and they sneak into an empty theater room, where they are joking around. At the end you can see the two playing around while Bieber is still playing the piano in another sequence in the theater.

reception

Leah Greenblatt of Entertainment Weekly the song described as "by far the best tracks on the album My World 2.0 " and described it as "a shimmering part of the genre blue-eyed soul ". She cited the music duo Hall & Oates as an example . Bill Lamb particularly emphasized the title and felt it was guaranteed to "produce warm and dazed sensations in millions of his fans". However, even adults would not be disappointed with the song. Monica Herrera from Billboard also commented on the single and was of the opinion that it would make an impression "on older listeners".

Commercial win

With 83,000 records sold, the song debuted in April 2010 on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 27. Then the title fell off the charts again. After the official publication in August of the same year, it initially rose again to rank 95, whereby it fell off the hit list again the following week. In March 2011, the sound carrier entered the US charts again (number 94), this time it fell to position 99 the next week before falling out again. The song was much more successful in Canada, where it entered the charts at number 17 in April 2010.
