from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pat Thrall (* before 1972 in San Francisco , California ) is an American rock - guitarist . He has worked with Pat Travers , Glenn Hughes , Meat Loaf and Asia and can be heard as a studio musician on albums by various artists. He also works as a music producer and sound engineer .

Life

Thrall grew up in the San Francisco area and made his first recordings in 1972. He belonged to the group Cookin 'Mama , in which his brother Preston Thrall played percussion. The group released the album New Day in 1972 .

In the seventies, Thrall worked with fusion musicians like Narada Michael Walden and Alphonso Johnson together and was a member of Stomu Yamashta 's Go , where Al Di Meola and former Santana - drummer Michael Shrieve played. Thrall described his extensive guitar solo in the song Crossing the Line on the live album Go Live from Paris in 1983 as his "most notable". After meeting at the Go sessions, Shrieve and Thrall formed the progressive rock group Automatic Man , which released two albums.

In 1978 Thrall played an audition with Pat Travers and was allowed to join his band. He can be heard on Travers' studio albums Heat in the Street , Go For What You Know and Crash and Burn . The latter contains the radio hit Snortin 'Whiskey , which Thrall wrote with Travers.

Published in 1982 Thrall along with former Deep Purple - bassist Glenn Hughes album Hughes / Thrall , on which the two musicians also wrote the songs together. Glenn Hughes had heard Thrall at a concert with Pat Travers and was impressed. After Thrall left Travers' band, the songs began to be written for Hughes / Thrall . The album received little attention when it was released, but has since developed into an insider tip. Hughes / Thrall broke up after the album was released. As a reason, Glenn Hughes cites cocaine abuse, due to which one was no longer able to continue working on music or performing. In 1999 they got together again and the recordings for a follow-up album began. However, work was broken off here too, as the album could not be completed within nine years.

In 1988 Thrall joined Meat Loaf and was part of his band for eleven years. In the 1990s Thrall also played with Asia and can be heard on two live albums and Aura . He has also worked with Beyoncé , Elton John and Tina Turner , among others .

Pat Thrall now lives in Las Vegas and works as a music producer and sound engineer.
