Santana , also known as Santana Blues Band known, a US-based Latin rock - band . It was founded in 1966 by the Mexican-American guitarist and singer Carlos Santana in San Francisco . Santana is a group that is characterized by changes in its personnel composition and, together with Carlos Santana, has made a contribution to the spread of Latin Rock.

history

The band was founded in San Francisco in 1966 , the first formation included Tom Frazier (guitar), Mike Carabello (percussion), Rod Harper (drums), Gus Rodriguez (bass guitar) and Gregg Rolie (organ, vocals). In the years that followed, the composition of the group changed very frequently and fundamentally. With the song Soul Sacrifice they appeared in 1969, shortly after their first album, at the Woodstock Festival and led this to one of the first musical highlights. 1971 to 1972 there was also a brief separation between Santana and the band.

Carlos Santana rarely did the vocal part himself. Usually other band members sang. So on Black Magic Woman from the second album, Abraxas , one of the most famous pieces of the group to hear a singer keyboardist Gregg Rolie.
