Life

Ligertwood's career began in Scotland in the 1960s . Jeff Beck discovered him there and brought him into his band in the early 1970s on a recommendation from Maggie Bell . He then sang with Brian Auger 's Oblivion Express (1970–1972 and 1974–1977), with the French jazz band Troc (1972/73) and the Average White Band .

In the late seventies he joined Narada Michael Walden , a friend of Carlos Santana’s friends , and the David Sancious & Tone Band as a singer and guitarist before joining Santana in 1979 .

He was a member of Santana from 1979 to 1994 with short interruptions. He worked on the albums "Marathon", "Zebop!", "Shangó" and "Sacred Fire" as well as on various solo projects by Carlos Santana.

Ligertwood was involved in the ROAR project in 1985 with some Santana colleagues . ROAR even had a hit with "We Gotta Do It".

Besides and after his time in Santana, he played with Spyro Gyra (1993), Ben E. King , Carly Simon , the David Garfield Band and others.

Ligertwood also wrote his own songs together with keyboardist Richard Baker, such as One & Only Love , a'kwa'gala (I Love you) and All the Way , which he recorded in solo projects with the help of music producer Keith Olsen. One of these solo projects was released in 1995 on the KORE Group label as a CD entitled Metro .

He now lives in Santa Monica , California , but also spends a lot of time in France . In 2010 he found Troc again, toured with this ensemble in France and neighboring countries in 2011 and also worked on the album "Troc 2011". In 2013 he was touring with Brian Auger's Oblivion Express and recorded a live album in Los Angeles.

In Germany Ligertwood has been performing quite often with the tribute band The Magic of Santana since 2011. In 2016 they were on a tour of Spain with the former Santana singer Tony Lindsay , of which a live album has since been released.
