David Sancious

David Sancious (born November 30, 1953 in Long Branch , New Jersey ) is an American fusion musician ( keyboards , guitar ).

Live and act

Sancious grew up in his birthplace, from the age of seven in Belmar (New Jersey) . There he first received classical piano lessons; at the age of eleven he also began to play the guitar. and founded his own R&B band. In Asbury Park (New Jersey) he met Bruce Springsteen , with whom he played in various bands; from 1972 he accompanied this on the album Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ , the two following studio albums and several tours. In the fall of 1974 he separated from the E Street Band in order to found his own band Tone with drummer Ernest Carter , which was located between jazz rock and art rock . Billy Cobham produced their first album Forest of Feelings (1975); three more albums followed by 1978. In the next few years, Sancious presented the albums Just As I Thought (1979) and The Bridge (1981) under his own name.

As a session musician , he has accompanied musicians such as Narada Michael Walden , Jack Bruce and Stanley Clarke since the late 1970s . In 1982 he toured with Jon Anderson and then played with singer Alex Ligertwood for Santana . (Ligertwood was already on his album True Stories in 1978. ) In the next few years he worked extensively with Sting , Zucchero Fornaciari and Peter Gabriel , but also with Youssou N'Dour , Living Color , Seal , Bryan Ferry , Julia Fordham , Robbie Dupree , Natalie Merchant , Eric Clapton , France Gall and Hall & Oates . He also presented other solo albums such as Nine Piano Improvisations (2000) and Cinema (2005).

Prizes and awards

In 2014, Sancious was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the E Street Band .
