Robbie Dupree

Robbie Dupree (* 23. December 1946 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York as Robert Dupuis ) is an American pop singer and songwriter, in 1980 with the two hits Steal Away and Hot Rod Hearts of breakthrough.

Career

1980s

His debut album Robbie Dupree , which is assigned to the Yacht Rock , was successful, so that he was nominated for the Grammy for Best New Artist the following year (1981) . His follow-up album Street Corner Heroes with the small hit Brooklyn Girls , published in the same year, could not repeat the initial success and Dupree did not record a third album until 1989 with Carried Away , which however did not have any notable success. In 1981 he sang the duet Work on It on Lauren Woods second album Cat Trick and was heard on albums by Bill LaBounty , Rick Cua and the Fugs .

Comeback in the 2000s and present

Dupree recorded other albums and has been doing well as a live artist especially since the comeback of yacht rock in 2005. In 2010 he released the album Time and Tide with, among others, former E Street Band keyboarder David Sancious . Dupree received a lot of attention on May 21, 2010 when he appeared on the talk show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon , as part of Fallon's ongoing tribute to Yacht Rock.

In 2018 a new single was released with Ordinary Day . Followed by Audio Graffiti a year later. Around the same time, his first two albums, Robbie Dupree and Street Corner Heroes, were also re-released.
