James Thomas "Jimmy" Fallon (born September 19, 1974 in New York City ) is an American comedian , presenter and actor . Until 2004 he was a member of the television show Saturday Night Live . Since February 2014 he is the host of the Tonight Show on NBC .

Private life

He was born to James Fallon Sr. and Gloria Feeley in Bay Ridge , Brooklyn . After graduating from high school in Saugerties ( Ulster County ), he attended the College . He has been married to the film and television producer Nancy Juvonen since December 2007 . Their first child was born in July 2013. Their second child was born in December 2014.

Fallon is of partial Irish descent and his paternal grandmother came from Osterholz-Scharmbeck in Lower Saxony while his maternal grandfather was an immigrant from Fredrikstad in Norway .

Career

After graduating from college, Fallon became a stand-up comedian and performed in clubs like Improv and Caroline's Comedy Club. In 1998 he was discovered for the television show Saturday Night Live . There he was part of the ensemble until 2004. From 2011, he hosted a number of SNL episodes, earning him an Emmy for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy Series in 2012 and 2014 .

After his time at SNL , he initially devoted himself to acting. In 2000 he appeared in Almost Famous for the first time on the big screen. In 2002 he was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Comedy Album. In 2001, 2002 and 2005 he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards . From 2009 to 2014 he presented the Late Night Show on NBC , which he had taken over from Conan O'Brien ; he was succeeded in 2014 by Seth Meyers . On May 23, 2011, he published the book Thank You Notes , in which he wrote down familiar little notes from his Late Night Show. In them he thanks different people (and objects) with irony and sarcasm , targeting current or everyday events.

On February 17, 2014, Jimmy Fallon appeared as the successor to Jay Leno as the presenter of the Tonight Show and received positive feedback in the American media. It is the first time in 40 years that the Tonight Show has been taped again in New York City. From January 26, 2016 to the end of 2017, the ARD digital broadcaster One The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon aired Monday to Friday from 11 p.m. in the US original with German subtitles .

In September 2016, Donald Trump was a guest on the Tonight Show . Fallon's handling of the Republican presidential candidate has been widely criticized, especially in the social networks that the moderator failed to mention Trump's questionable views.
