action

Belle is a cab driver in New York City . One day she is instructed by police investigator Washburn to pursue four female bank robbers, led by Vanessa, who are fleeing in a BMW. Washburn is mistakenly stopped by the arriving reinforcements and Belle's car is confiscated, ruining her livelihood.

Washburn and Belle investigate together, resulting in some car chases. They discover that the money stolen by the gang is being collected by a garbage man whose wife has been kidnapped. In another bank robbery, the robbers take a boy hostage. The policewoman Marta Robbins offers to be taken hostage instead of the boy. The robbers then agree with Washburn that Robbins will be exchanged for the money he has seized.

The robbers drive two cars next to Washburn and Belle's; During the trip the money is handed over and Robbins jumps into Belle's car, which brakes. The models' cars jump over a gap in the elevated road and land on a bridge under construction. Vanessa shoots the taxi, while Belle is shot. Washburn gets Belle to a hospital in time.

New York banks buy Belle a new car. She starts in a car race, before which her boyfriend Jesse's marriage proposal appears on the display board.

Reviews

Robert Koehler wrote in Variety magazine on October 5, 2004 that the film brought "embarrassing evidence" that even the "bungling" French original film could be better than its remake. Even the "usually lively" Queen Latifah seems "uninspired". The camera work by Vance Burberry is "solid"; Koehler also praised the stunt people.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "failed buddy movie full of naive gags and senseless chases".
