Ride Along is an American comedy film of Tim Story from the year 2014 with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in the lead roles.

The security guard Ben Barber wants to marry Angela, sister of the tough cop James Payton. James, who thinks Ben is a loudmouth, does not want to give him permission until he accompanies him on a so-called ride-along , the joint patrol of a policeman with a civilian.

During the patrol, James asks the headquarters to give him all "126s". Ben should then take care of these "unpleasant" cases, which all patrol officers avoid as much as possible. Meanwhile, James is looking for information that should lead him to the gangster Omar, who is smuggling forged passports in Atlanta.

James tries to arrest Omar in an arms trade, but is betrayed by his partners Santiago and Miggs, who secretly work for Omar. Ben joins them and pretends to be Omar, whom none of the participants has ever seen before. However, this appears shortly afterwards and there is an exchange of fire between James and the gangsters. The reviews of the film were mostly negative to average. The film received an average rating of 18% on Rotten Tomatoes , based on 118 reviews. On Metacritic , the film achieved a Metascore of 41 based on 34 reviews.

The film service said about Ride Along : "The long-winded buddy movie relies on its chattering-annoying main character, but only warms up the clichés and conventions of the genre and remains unoriginal and unsurprising even in the action scenes."

In contrast to the professional critics, however, the film was very well received by moviegoers and therefore received an A rating at CinemaScore on the opening weekend . The film grossed 41 million US dollars on the opening weekend alone and was number one in the US box office for three weeks.
