Gisele Caroline Bündchen (Portuguese [ ʒiˈzɛli bĩtʃẽ ], German [ bʏntçn ]) (born July 20, 1980 in Horizontina , Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian model , climate activist , author , actress and businesswoman .

Life

Bündchen and her dizygoti twin sister were born as the middle of six daughters of the university professor and author Valdir Bündchen and the bank clerk Vânia Nonnenmacher. She comes from a German-Brazilian family who have lived in Brazil for six generations. In 1993, at her mother's request, she took a course at the Dilson Stone Modeling School . In May 1994 she took part in an event organized by the school in São Paulo, where candidates were assessed by the Elite Agency . In a subsequent competition she was among the five finalists. A few months later, she took part in the Elite Model Look competition for young talent in Paris , which was followed by a successful career. In 1997 she was photographed for the Pirelli calendar . In 1998 she came up with eleven cover photos, 60 magazine shoots, 150 fashion shows and ten advertising campaigns. In 1999 she won the model of the year election and had her final big breakthrough.

She became known in the USA primarily through the fashion shows and advertising campaigns of the US underwear brand Victoria's Secret . On May 1, 2007, Victoria's Secret announced the end of the collaboration, as Bündchen had demanded excessive fees (8.7 million instead of the previous five million dollars ). She has been promoting the H&M spring collection since March 2011 .

Since December 2006 she has been in a relationship with the American football player Tom Brady . They got engaged in December 2008 and married on February 26, 2009. On December 8, 2009, their son was born. Their daughter was born in December 2012. From 2007 to March 2020, she lived with her husband and children in Boston from July to January and in Brentwood (Los Angeles) for the rest of the year . Since April 2020 she has lived with her family in Tampa, Florida.

She made a special appearance on the catwalk at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro .

Bündchen is 1.80 meters tall, has the dimensions 86-61-86. She was the highest paid model in the world , according to Forbes (2010). In 2015, she topped Forbes' World's Highest Paid Models with record earnings of more than $ 44 million.

In 2007 Claudia Schiffer described her as the only remaining supermodel.

Movie

In 2004 Bündchen shot the action comedy New York Taxi with Queen Latifah and Jimmy Fallon , among others , a remake of Gérard Pirès ' Taxi , in which she played the leader of the band of robbers pursued by the main characters. In 2006 she had a small supporting role in the film The Devil Wears Prada .

Stock market

In 2007, the American economist Fred Fuld proposed a stock index that summarizes the companies with which Bündchen has advertising contracts. Such a covenant index would have already exceeded the Dow Jones Industrial Average by a few percentage points. The “Bündchenindex” then rose by 41 percent by 2011, while the Dow Jones fell by four percent in the same period.
